Door handle mystery

Featured Replies

Hello,

Noticed that I have this plastic tab on the rear passenger side door handle only.

Anyone know what it could be? Thanks!

Someone is trying to steal your car. This tab "may" prevent your doors from locking. Remove it asap.

Really? Hmm how worrying. It’s been in the car since we bought it so maybe someone tried to steal it from the previous owner. Who knows :speechless:

I thought - hoped - they were joking.  There are loads of click bait videos on YouTube ‘warning’ people about things like this.

Turns out it’s actually part of the car :whew:. It’s a rubber band/strip type thing that you see when you open the handle. It was very loose and now lives inside the door as it fell out when I tried to move it.

I hope it’s not important.

Here it is on the other handle. Any ideas what it’s for?

It's a weather seal.

Thanks for confirming, I’ve ordered a new one since the old one is now living inside the door. So hopefully I can remove the handle with ease to put it back on.

My reply was based on thoughts about a piece of rigid plastic being shoved in there when the car was unlocked. Does not look like a displaced door seal in that first picture. Good luck sorting it.
