Columbus and not recognising phone contact address

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have the Columbus system on a Kodiaq (Dec 2017) and a phone is paired fine. All the contacts are synced to the Columbus and I can make and receive calls OK.

However, when looking at the contact address fields, all it shows is the road name followed by several dots. Selecting the contact address for navigation only seems to see the town on the destination map. All LOndon posy codes just show the City centre!

Is there a specific format for post codes or does the Columbus need to see the address fields in a specific order? Phone is a Galaxy S7 Edge and Google recognised all the address fields.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks.

After some further investigation, very strange behaviour.

1. The SatNav has an inability to decode most of the addresses in the contacts (selected from the Nav menu) despite them being formatted correctly.

2. London post codes mainly neeed to be entered without any spaces

3. Many other post codes need a space!

4. SatNav takes ages (up to 2 minutes) trying to identify if it recognises a post code with just a spinning disk.

The old RNS510 for navigation seemed much superior - but the new Columbus does have a very good info and entertainment system

I will contact the dealer to see what they think.

Does anyone else see issues like these?

Thanks.

I find the search on the sat nav very poor, especially for postcodes. Its quicker to just plug the phone in and use Android Auto/Google Maps. I find the Skoda sat nav usually needs the space in the postcode, but I couldn't vouch for its consistency! The trip planner in the Skoda Connect app is the same, though the phone keyboard is marginally more usable than the screen in the car. Basically, if it doesn't find the postcode in a second or 2 then I stop the search and try an alternate format.

Thanks. Glad to know that I am not alone in this!

I did go to the garage and demonstrated the issue and they will take it up with Skoda - but after tech issues I had with my previous car, I am not holding my breath!

I also demonstrated selecting a destination from the phone contacts in almost 95% of cases completely failed to recognise an address - despite Google Maps decoding a contact perfectly. It seems that if you have a number in the road address, that confuses it for a start. Many addresses in south London are picked up as all being at the same spot in the city of London! The fact that Skoda specifically promote this ability for navigation, the garage is also taking this up as they saw the erratic behaviour.

Perhaps since Skoda (VAg) moved to using maps from Here (Garmin??), things have got really messed up.

IN the meantime, for flawless navigation I use Android Auto with Google Maps.

Not sure what or how good Sygic is (if you use the mirror link? which does not support Google Maps).
