Does this mean you wont be able to do just short town routes like with diesel?

Before we bought the Fabia I did some research into PPF's (or GPF's) just in case the car did not arrive before they were being fitted. Did not want a petrol that was as potentially useless as a diesel in our low mileage usage.

From what I could find out it appears that they work very differently from DPF's. No regens as we know them, because petrol exhausts run much hotter than diesel exhausts they should burn off particles from the moment you drive away.

But since its an exhaust component don't expect one to last forever Good news is the prices I have seen quoted for a replacement are between £25 and £150. Nothing official but they look much less than a DPF.

Luckily for us the Fabia arrived pretty quick from Czecho so no PPF this time. But its inevitable on the next car, unless we go electric. But why pay double for a car with limited range when a PPF will probably give no issues for most people.

Great replacing Catalytic converters and pick a number any number but often the price starts at £1,000 even though you can get them for £450 or so upwards.

So that is not changing.

GPF's only £25-£150, sounds like a bargain if not too often, they have them on the 1.0tsi and through the WLTP approval, & the 1.5TSI ACT with the Octavia.

once they get the others with a 1.5 tsi & the 2.0 TSI's they will be sorted.

The cat on my 98 1.9tdi Alhambra which is the same as on same engined Golf cost me £175 fitted on a Sunday at Kwik fit iirc.

Surprised and really good quality replacement part too. The original cat failed MOT at 18years old due to small hole on the rear pipe which was in quite a fragile state even though the front and main body was solid and sound.

Kwik fit didn't do the fail, that was somewhere else that wanted £295.

XMAN, only 1/2 the price now of the £175.

Bit of a old thread bump, but directly relevant ;)

Nearly a year on, but given what we know today, two models same options, one a 280, one a 272, do you still feel a 280 is a better option?

So 280vs272

6spd dsg vs 7spd dsg

No GPF vs GPF

Maybe 12months isn't enough to guage the GPF impact.

DSG gearing, meh

mpi & butterfly vs wltp :D

Gasoline Particulate Filter. It cleans up the engine's emissions but usually strangles the engine hence a usual 4-8bhp drop in power. Superb down from 280PS to 272PS for example.

MPI Multi Point Injection. Butterfly flaps or valves in the exhaust open up to give a better sound (louder) and more power. Standard on the 280 engine removed from the 272 engine. WLTP tougher emissions testing more realistic mpg figures (lower) than the previous NEDC figures standard they replaced.

Thanks, not good on acyronyms.

Just looks like a list of letters to me.

They are just BS often and do not translate well globally, and the same letters get used over time to mean something else on occasions,

and Dealership Showroom Employees that should know are often none the wiser but then where have they time to read owners Manuals or Brochures.
