Boot unlocking when headlights are turned on

Featured Replies

Hi, we just got our Roomster second hand a couple months ago and recently we descovered our boot unlocks when the headlights are turned on. Doesn’t matter if the cars parked in the driveway or we’re driving. As long as the car is on the boot unlocks when the lights are switched on. Has anyone ever encountered this problem?

I have just had a problem with my brand new Karoq SEL 2019 when I pressed the button switching between cruise control and speed limiter on one occasion there was a clunk in the back and the boot showed open and was held only the secondary latch.

All this fly by wire stuff is a bit scary really when there seems to be a crossover kicking off the wrong function. There is supposedly a fail safe preventing this over a certain speed but this happened at 30 mph.

I will go in to the garage and see if the event log recorded what happened.

I had a similar issue with a 2009 Superb when the fog lights were turned on. This was caused by the wiring into the twin hatch wearing with the constant opening / closing cracking the sheaths and shorting. No further issues after stripping it out and soldering in more flexible wires.

We figured it out yesterday!! After a massive hunt of all the wires we could find going to the boot we discovered on the top passenger side of the boot door a rubber casing full of wires. After removing it we discovered 2 broken wires. We stripped them, soldered them and wrapped them, replaced the rubber casing and problem solved! Turned out the other split wire was the rear windscreen wipers we didn’t even know were broken. So happy we saved ourselves potentially £100’s from an auto electrician.

Nice work!  Sadly, a common fault.
