Strange tyre wear ...

Featured Replies

Because of the trip to Europe had to buy new tyres - Uniroyal RainSport 3 of course ;)

Old Pirelli Cinturato have done about 10k miles - car is 170+ 4x4 estate with DSG - front tyres about 5mm left - rear tyres - only 3mm ?!?! - all were the same when installed.

As it is front wheel drive with Haldex kicking in on-demand - why rears are so much worse ?? Is it because of my lead foot ? ;)

No towbar, no heavy haulage, just normal day-to-day commute.

Maybe the rear diff is getting engaged much more often than you think?

Is that even wear across the tyre? I’m fairly sure I’ve read of an issue with high tyre wear on the inside of rears..

Hah, I’d still expect the fronts to be worn - surely they must be slipping to engage the haldex?

cheers

Maybe, but a bit strange.

Maybe a bit uneven but nothing major.

I was shocked by the wear on my rear tyres on my estate.  Think I had got 18K out of the Bridgestones and the extreme inner edge of the rears were bald.  A lesson for me to crouch right down to inspect the tyres rather than kneeling down at the side as you couldn't see it unless you were right under the car.

I had a Hunter 3D 4 wheel alignment done a couple of months back just after getting the new tyres, and the alignment was well out, this would probably be a good idea to get checked, £80 well spent.  I will be getting the alignment re-checked next year.  The place I take it to does a free check, although I expect they know they will have to make adjustments which will be chargeable...   Anyway, maybe worth an alignment check.  I have also read that the Superb is bad for eating suspension bushes so that might be a factor depending on overall mileage.

Tasman where did you get it done as I have just fitted  4 Michelin Cross climate plus today and want to get it done right
Done it today with a basic 4 Wheel alignment at my mates work but want the rear camber checked and adjusted..

Also eventually got round today to fitting  4 Rotor Discs all round and Predator padsB)

Good news on the brakes @DEL80Y that will be a cracking upgrade and a big difference to standard performance.  My only recommendation is to inform your insurer to be on the safe side as it is an upgrade from original spec.  I am with LV and they added 'brake changes' to my policy at no extra cost...

Re. 4 wheel alignment, I went to Planet Performance at Dundonald, so its in striking distance for you.  I booked in for first appointment on a Monday and had the car back around 1030 - 11am.  I just waited around as it suited me plus they are in an industrial estate so not much you can go for a wander while waiting...  Anyway, they spent over 2 hours setting up my car and brought everything back to factory spec.  See my post on it here....https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/451865-4-wheel-alignment-results-superb-estate/?do=findComment&comment=5085009

I was the same as you, new set of Crossclimate + a couple of weeks before alignment.  I went to a tyre place in Ayr for an alignment and it was clear they didn't know what they were doing and didn't have a clue about camber settings despite having Hunter equipment....!  Research took me to Planet Performance as they have a lot of feedback on setting up fast road/track cars on their Hunter equipment with no complaints, check out their FB page.  Proof is in the printouts...:)   Hope that helps, if you end up going there, mention I was there in July.  I will probably head back for a check early next year as I expect with the state of the roads they will be in need of a check by then.
