Acceleration jerks, TDI 190

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just bought 2017 L&K TDI 190, during test drive noticed very hard jerks during hard acceleration (from 0 to 40) - like someone hit the brake pedal twice.

I suggested to the dealer that could be the issue in the fuel pump or fuel filter, however they said that is how traction control system works to prevent wheels from spinning on slippery roads. And because the engine is quite powerful that is what happening.

I don't very believe in that because in my understanding traction control must be more "gentle".

Could you give any suggestions? This is my first experience in buying a car in UK so would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

If it happens when changing gear then it is probably the ‘dogbone’ gearbox mount, they are quite soft and can bang under full movement, you can buy an alloy insert to go inside the mount to reduce the movement drastically.

Search for ‘034 Motorsport’ in this section.

Sorry, I should have mention it is a DSG version.

Thanks for the suggestion, I checked the '034 Motorsport’ but I don't think it is the issue - in my case it is really like something hits the brake pedal

Fair enough, mine is also a DSG and it has made a huge improvement.

(Several owners on here have one fitted and I have not seen a bad comment about it)

@Gizmo Do you have the traction control system? Can you notice when it works, if yes - how does that appear?.. I checked videos on youtube, looks like it works quite smoothly and barely noticeable..

I wonder if someone with 190 TDI DSG could try hard acceleration and check if there are any such symptoms..

I do but TBH as mine is now pushing 505nm through just the front wheels I tend to use my right foot as traction control

AntonZ, Welcome.

So what tyres are on your car and at what pressure?

& have you tried Traction Control (TC / ASR) off?

Could you pls try to accelerate hard from 0 to 40 with TC enabled and see how does it work?..

Thanks for the suggestion, will try on Monday when I'll be collecting the car. Just want to be ready to talk to the dealer if they found nothing.

Could it be the drop of turbo pressure you felt?

Mine does that sometimes when shifting gears at full throttle. Feels like your loosing all power until the tubo builds up pressure. That's my theory anyway :) I dont believe that the traction control should work in that way..

Doesn't sound like TC to me but I have a manual 190, also a light should flash on the dash when TC cuts in afaik.

Sounds like water in the fuel filter to me.

If i get the light flashing on the dash then back off slightly, but I no longer get any bangs  or like the brakes have been applied.

You need to remember that it is a driver AID, not simply there so you can just bury the throttle in the bulkhead and let it sort itself out.

Driving a car without any mechanical sympathy is never going to be a cheap experience.

My 190 dsg did this and I reported this prob a year ago when brand new. My car now has 11k on it now and drives very smooth , those jerky problems went away as the car bedded in.

That's just my experience , may not be yours , but give her a chance
