DSG Clutch Wear

Featured Replies

In a similar manner a mate of mine has just got shut of his B8 S4 which started to have S Tronic gearbox issues. Out of warranty (60 plate) and suspected mechatronics issue.

Cracking car but I wouldn't want to own one outside of warranty.

I'll be honest the RS4 v8 is amazing. Not a fan of it as a car but the performance is amazing. However, he had a service bill over 3000 quid last year which included a fixed price brake replacement which cost nearly 2300. Not enough of a supercar to be paying those bills for me. I guess big cost is big liability.

And of course Audi now shifting such models onto the smoothest and most reliable autobox in the world. The ZF8HP, not DSG, not even a box made by VAG.

In comparison my 7 speed DSG is tiny and still not fixed but Skoda have poured £5250 into the repair

I am currently looking for a low mileage 2ltr diesel Octavia for taxi work but maybe I should reconsider, after fifteen years taxi driving with a manual box I really need a automatic but is dsg a wise choice?

2.0litre has the DQ250 6 speed wetclutch box which is pretty reliable as long as it has it's scheduled oil changes.

The 7 speed DQ200 is far more problematic.

Its The curse of google in a lot of ways if you type in dsg problems you would think they were made of chocolate.its like googling a medical symptom  you scare yourself silly.

Test drove 2ltr diesel dsg Octavia this morning it’s the second dsg I have tried this one felt slower to react than the first one especially the first couple of miles  is that normal,I was putting it down to being cold Would that be right?  Do they take a while to warm up, Never owned a auto before so it’s all a bit of a learning curve. Cheers

Were they both the same engine?

Sorry yes both the 2ltr logiclee

They do adapt to driving style somewhat so there can be differences.

Shouldn't be to much difference with cold/hot though. Should always be a crisp change.

Essential they have the 40k service.

Joebloggs67,

?

What are they 2.0 TDI 150ps.

I would not put anything down to being cold if you are in the UK, how cold was it?

It was most noticeable pulling out into roundabouts and junctions there seemed to be more of a lag from  coming of the brakes and getting on the move, it didn’t seem to creep like the first one had to give it gas before it moved.that been said I am very sluggish on a cold morning nowadays

Yea offski both 2ltr TDi 150ps  temp was about 8c

DQ250 should be creeping before you have fully lifted the brake.

That’s what was bugging me the first one was much quicker to start moving from rest the second one felt like if I didn’t give it gas it would just sit there, should mention they both have about 17000 miles on them

Autohold? I find autohold is slow to react, sometimes I have to give it some encouragement.

I find on cold mornings, it's also slow to change up, may be it is linked to ECU to help warm the engine up?

Yes you might be on to something there wyx087 few years ago I was driving a manual Passat for a week or so and I really didn’t like the auto hold function and how it made the car react, and the theory about the ecu would make sense.

Autohold should be seemless, and ECU stuff is a load of nonsense being discussed,

It is Euro 6 TDI's and the last and best 6 speed DSG's fitted, and you just get used to what the cars are,

get to know about TC, parking brakes or Hillhold Assist or Autohold, and a Diesel is never the same as a Petrol even when the Diesel gets 2 turbos,

or more go go from the off.

The Octavia does not have Autohold only hill hold.

Only VAG models with Electric Handbrake get Autohold.

Saying that pulling away from standstill with DSG and either system should be absolutely seamless.

Autohold with manuals can be a bit more hit and miss.

I drove a 2nd hand 2014 1.6 CDi DSG from 75000KM, I retired from taxiing last year with 369000KM on it and am still driving it as a private car, only problems Waterpumps x 3, a crack in the oil cooler ( needs a water top up every 1500KM ) and a mechatronics gear box repair carried out by these lads

https://www.ecutesting.com/common-faults/volkswagen/volkswagen-golf-audi-a3-dsg-7-gearbox-problem/

So late to this thread but I found the DSG box comfortable in use and generally reliable
