DVLA Useless To!$@rs

Featured Replies

was due to pick up new Fabia today from the dealer, but DVLA :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn: still haven't transferred by private plate over, dealer informed me it should be next monday but knowing my luck I doubt it. They've had over a week now to do this surely it's just a paper excercise anyway and should take 5 minutes.

Last few times i've changed plates its been done in 24-48 hours max.

not amused at DVLA at ALL:finger:

i just brought one from private dealer on a private plate no v5 no nothing but had details of bloke who owns it, just got it insured on private plate until bloke sent me through change of reg docs received today of to halfords to get my proper plates done on the weekend! dont think bloke who sold it me was suppose to though but hey i took the risk and its all sorted now... bit of a downer though, its worth the wait though great car;)

Can't you run it on the regular plates and once the DVLA give the OK, just swap them over yourself.

This is what I did. I ran mine as a Y-plate until I got the go-ahead.

the dvla are fecking useless, discovered another c0ckup on their part today. my sierra thats been in my posession for about 6 months(ish), when taking it off my mates hands i sent off the relevant forms to transfer ownership and SORN it but never recieved the V5. called today to chase the V5 as i want to tax/mot/insure it at the end of the month and it turns out it has never been in my name or infact sorn :thumbdwn: apparently its my fault and the woman on the phone kept telling me i would have to pay to get it sorted, got that sorted in no time :)

The DVLA are a bunch of useless morons.

Nothing ever gets done in a reasonable time frame.

He won't be able to run it on normal plates if its a brand new car 'cos it won't be registered with them- his private plate will be the first reg no the car will have.

It took the DVLA 10 weeks to sort out my reg transfer so I got fed up waiting and just collected mine on the Y-plate too (and the guy who bought mine old car was running around on my private plate)

After it had been four weeks I got fed up and startded to call them every day.

Every day I called they went through the procedure of taking my post code and first line of my address.

It wasn't untill two weeks later (so after speaking to about 10 operators) one of them finally noticed that the address I was saying didn't match the address on the screen.

One of the muppets had typed my post code wrong and the documents had been sent to the wrong address.

It then took them another three or four weeks for me to get the documents after that.

Next time I change my car I am going to take my reg off my car at least a month before I plan to change.

We recieved the new tax disk for SWMBO's car in the post this week, great except we sold it recently and haven't bought new tax for it.

classic!

To be fair I suspect it is a genuine mistake. The new owner has probably bought it online as there are the last 4 CC digits on the slip. The DVLA have then sent it to the registered keeper which has not yet been changed to the new owner.

how long ago did you sell the car?

Weekend before last IIRC.

not long then, forgivable i suppose :)

Which means they have referenced your insurance to tax it, and not checked the new owners details..............

Return the disc to the DVLA and get the new owners to do it properly......

Yep.

I phoned the DVLA and they said just give it to the new owners, when I pointed out that this would then give them 6 months before having to register it as theirs they said send it back with a covering letter. I told them that I was prepared to rip it up but not take the time to write a letter and post it at my expense, especially as they have ripped me off for best part of a month when we returned the tax when we sold it - stalemate.

Send it COD

AdamC, finally got round to logging on again, your right the dealer shouldn't have sold you my car until he had sorted out the plates, V5 in the post today though, you just have to sign it at the bottom put in your date of bieth and send it off.

Alex
