New Windscreen

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Well, on the way in to work this morning a stone flicked from the wheels of a passing van chipped my windscreen.  Having gone through the usual Autoglass questions it seems I need a new screen - it's in the line of sight and it's more than a cm.  Unfortunately it seems there are no Octavia MKIII windscreens in stock and the chap at Autoglass would not even estimate a timescale.  This seems a bit ridiculous as it's not as if the Octavia is either a newly released car or an uncommon sight, but that's the situation and I guess I'm stuck with it.

Anyway, I have read about recalibration being needed when a new windscreen is fitted when a car has certain features such as lane keep assist/traffic sign recognition.  I don't have those functions on but I wanted to check whether I would need calibration for any of the other bells and whistles that it has like HBA? The car has Front Assist but as far as I know that solely controlled by the radar in the grille.  What I don't want is to wait ages for the screen and then the Autoglass installer tell me that they can't fit the screen on my drive because of some function or other!

Any advice gratefully received!

The camera which does lane assist/high beam assist officially needs calibrating when the windscreen is replaced. It *may* be fine without, but it should be covered as part of the autoglass job via your insurance so it would be silly not to get it done. Front assist does not need recalibration as part of this work. I have front assist also and mine wasn't touched.

Unless things have changed since last year, it also means you have to go to one of their depots rather than them coming out to you.

Had the screen changed few weeks back by auto glass. Had no problems with them supplying and fitting it !

Is there some sort of national windscreen shortage?! I’ve been waiting 2 1/2 weeks for dealer to get a new screen fitted on a superb.

I had mine done a month again and waited 2 weeks for a fitter/workshop appt.
