Moon White Metalic Paint Problem

Featured Replies

Has anyone had the same problem with the paintwork described here.My wifes Karoq SE is in Metallic Moon White and was purchased as a pre reg car at 3 weeks old on 10/07/18. We went away on holiday  a few days after I picked It up and did not notice that the paint looked a bit flat and looked more like Candy White than Moon White. When I returned from holiday I obained the view of 3 relitives including my wife and son who all agree that they cannot see the Metallic dust or pigment in the paint. We have been dealing with my wifes Cancer Treatment since begining of August and been unable to take the car into my Local dealer  until today(it was purchased from a dealer som 280 miles from my home in the West Of Scotland).

I took it to the Local dealer this afternoon and had it compared to another Moon White car and while the Colour if the car is Moon White it is flat with no metalic finish compared to the dealers vehicle and the Local Dealer agrees its not got any pigment or very little compared to the car I was shown.

I have now been advised to contact Skoda UK to allow them to investigate as clearly its not easy to return back to the supplying dealer due to the distance.

Would welcome any comments and if anyone has had the same problem. The car has covered 2400 mls.

Thanks.

Welcome.

Sounds like a good idea, contact the supplying dealership and Skoda UK Customer Services, have them arrange the cars inspection and confirm you got the correct paint,

then see what they are going to do.

Have it all in writing.

?

Which local Dealership in Lanarkshire?  They could have contacted Skoda, they have the number, they have the technicians, they know what to do

as you will likely be going back to them to see the Warranty Manager with the test sample.  There was one at the dealership.

My car is a six week old Karoq Edition in Moon white.

I never even questioned the metallic pigment in the paint, but now you mention it, mine is also just a plain white.

I'd be interested to hear what information you get back from Skoda.

Can anyone confirm what effect the metallic pigment is meant to provide?

Thanks for the reply and advice I dont want to name dealers at this stage as thelocal dealer obliged me by looking at the car. It was the sales dept who compared it to another car.Its a public holiday her in West Scotland so I thought the service department would be closed.I will wait till Skoda UK gets back to me.It would help to here if it has been a problem for any other forum member and here of their experience.

Its not the first time I have had paint problems having had a L Rover Discovery replaced due to very poor paint and an even poor respray so no respray this time.

Thanks

I you haven't already done so it would be worth checking the vehicle data information which should include the paint code.  These used to be placed in the boot, on the metal to the left of the spare wheel well, but don't know if they still stick them there on the Karoq.

Candy white code 9P9P, Moon White S9R/2Y2Y

Thanks Portman for the info on the paint code My Audi A3 has spec code in the tyre well just checked but no sticker of any codes on the body work or under the bonnet or boot. Skoda was able to confirm it is Moon White.

Ingrams, Parks, Henrys, Arnold Clark, it hardly matters where you went, they are not doing favours they are Approved Repairers and Official Skoda Dealerships.

True they get the service business.

RonnieBarker let me know when you have a closer look at  your paintwork.Any previous cars I have owned with  Metallic paintwork have been easy to see the silver  particals through the paintwork especially when the sun light reflects on it the same with a Perlescent Red Audi I had recently.

I was asked by the local dealer today if the car had been resprayed,no was the reply and I then asked the Supplying dealer the same question and told it had not had any paint work repair.

The metallic flec in Moon White doesn’t jump out like Reflex(?) Silver or Race Blue. It’s very subtle unless the lighting is bang on and the car is clean.

The difference between Moon White and Candy White is obvious. Moon White is a nice crisp white. Candy White is more an off white.

Thanks for the reply I agree that the Metallic  flec is more subtle in the Moon White my problem is that the metallic part of the pigment seems to be missing and the dealers car today in Moon White showed the fine metallic sparkle that you would expect and comparison between the both cars paintwork was like night and day hence the phone call to Skoda and the supplying dealer.

Hopefully the response which is to be within 48hours will produce a favourable responce.

thanks everybody who has responded.

Dealer checked yesterday its Moon White also registered as MW by Skoda Sat next to another MW  car  deffo same colour minus the metallic pigment.

You just can't rely on those robots can you! :D

How’s that even possible? It’s not like the white is sprayed on then whilst still wet a couple of guys run around with a salt shaker filled with metallic sprinkles.

Could you shine a really bright light onto the paint. It might help to see if there are any flex's in the paint

Skoda contacted me this afternoon. They are investigating to see if the car has sustained any damage in transit ( having had a good look at the car I cannot see any sign of paintwork repair. My experience over the years in either getting bodywork repaired or buying second hand repairs amost always leave a tel tail sign, over spray.masking tape left on the body work or an raised edge.Non of this is visable).

Skoda wants the car to be inspected by an Approved Skoda Bodyshop and will be in touch to arrange this.

Will update later.

Thanks everone for the comments.

I have checked my car and as has been mentioned, the metallic fleck is barely noticeable.

I'm not too bothered as I like the clean fresh white even if you can't really see the metallic.

Although I bought brand new (1st reg keeper), I got it through Orangewheels as a car already in stock saving about £3k off the OTR price.

I didn't choose the paint but I'm happy with the colour.

My only issue is that being so bright seems to attract millions of small flies whenever I park in sunshine???

What will happen to these flakeless moon whites if they are involved in a collision and have to have panels resprayed with the correct sparkley moon white, it’s never going to match?

Having spent 4 weeks with my Moon White bombing around Scotland it was in desperate need for a clean yesterday on my return.

Having spent about 4 hours, washing, polishing and waxing my little beauty, I can safely say that the magic sprinkles were added to mine. I have not done a comparison to the Candy White but it definitely is metallic.

Good luck with your ongoing discussions.

Shame, we probably passed by at some point. You are very lucky. Scotland is a fantastic place and has some of the nicest/friendliest people I have ever met.

We did 10 days walking the Fife coast and had great weather, here is the Karoq admiring one of the views

and then did 2 weeks in Oban exploring the islands and highlands where every day we would get to see each of the 4 seasons :-)

Dave great to here you had an enjoyable holiday in Fife and the West Coast Of Scotland I Like Oban and Fort William some of the nicest scenery in the world as long as you can put up with the wee besties the Midgies.Cannot think of a better car to travel that route and your photo looks stunning.

Hope you will visit again soon and the sun was present makes that a better prospect.Enjoy your Moon White Karoq.
