  • Really interesting reading this one back.     I did indeed end up with a Stinger GTS. March 2019 car purchased in July with less than 2k miles on it.     Just below 6k miles now.    

  • Get a spin in the Stinger, its well worth a drive. I was very sceptical at first but they drive far better than the Superb. They took a lot of engineers and designers from BMW and it certainly shines

  • I don’t have to imagine I’m Brad Pitt for me to walk into a room and be ignored.    Though I’m sure if Mr Pitt was to wear his Briskoda Freedom Member pin badge, he’d be the centre of attent

Fabia Estate is starting to look really big.

Owned Fabia Estate for 3 years from 2010. One the most practical small cars on planet. Once carried 8 pieces of 18mm MDF 2440 x 610mm with the tailgate closed.:biggrin:

Yes sorry I think it does have actuator but it sounds good anyway whereas the 4 pot tsi engine is a bit whiney in every guise whether it be the golf gti or s3 280

Honestly the 280 ain't too bad.  I've seen low 40's on a few long runs now, long term ave. is 33MPG.  That's with all-season tyres and the engine is barely run in. 

Haha yes you are correct! And now due to company insurance I’ve put it all back to standard with a new exhaust apart from the sport line diffuser..... about £3k later....

 

so if anyone wants a performance exhaust (or a chopped up standard one for projects....)

The boot size of the Stinger is a concern for me. Rarely do I pack the Octy Estate completely full, but I do sometimes!

 

Also, I think there is less rear legroom than an  Octy, let alone a Superb.  Would have to sit the kids in the back to test it out first.

The boot is quite shallow and falls to very shallow at the tail. Haven't tried it at the test drive but I don't think you could put a large suite care vertically on the long side. Floor space is OK in the boot but very shallow. You could 'probably fit 2 large suitcases flat side by side and a couple of shopping bags in front but that's about it. When you go to try I hightly recommend taking suitcases with you to test as it is deceptive and you might be excited about the driving part and could blind your judgement.

 

Rear legroom is not too bad probably like the Octy or a 4 series BMW(not sure), head room is pretty low and it doesn't feel airy at the back which, for kids, would probably be a negative. We had a Recaro Monza ISOFIX car seat in the back during the test drive. it fits ok but to be honest I didn't really pay attention that much as when I saw the boot we knew it wasn't for us but wanted not to miss the opportunity for a drive anyway. But we're 'special' as the even the boot in the Octy Estate is tiny for my wife :) so it must be a Superb or a Kodiaq for us

She must be on the large size but it seems rather cruel making her travel in the boot....or have I misinterpreted that?

All good thoughts, particularly the taking of cases etc to the test drive. I might take a pretty full Octy boot and see how I go with the Kia. 

 

Of course, 99 days out of 100, the 400 odd litre boot will suffice. It’s the odd tip run or the annual holiday that tends to fill the boot.

7 LARGE suitcases go in the back of my Octy with the 2 front seats in use, quite practical for a hatchback.:mmm:

I can get 4 large suitcases and 4 hand luggage bags plus coats etc in the boot of my Superb hatchback with all seats in use. Only downside is the parcel shelf has to stay at home, but.....meh!

There’s no doubt Skoda are magicians when it comes to interior space.

 

I’m 6”01’ and I can easily sit in the back behind my driving position in the Octy with several inches to spare

Are you aware the parcel shelf can be stowed against the back seats. Remove parcel shelf and slide down it down so the rear of the parcel shelf is on the boot floor

That’s what I really like about the Superb. Even though it isn’t really any longer than “premium brands”, interior space is generally better. I reckon part of this is down to the bonnet proportion, it hasn’t had to be made stupidly long because Skoda hasn’t had to plan to shoehorn some massive motor under it. To me, I think it looks much better proportioned than 5 series or E class.

Yes :) it’s very handy as I use it as a dog guard, it stays connected to the boot lid and just slots in place when the dogs aren’t in. Unfortunately those 3 or 4 inches it takes up when upright mean that my 4 suitcases and everything else won’t fit without potentially damaging the shelf

Ahh yeah if its tight it can make a difference

Something else to consider is what the Kia will be worth after a couple of years, when you want to replace it.

It seems that the Stinger GT-S will hold its value rather better than some of the 'premium' opposition - so no worrreis there at all. 

Seems according to whom, Derren Brown?   

 Or are KIA Dealerships giving some assurances on what they would buy one back for sometime in the future?

Of course.  If you are buying a keeper why worry,

if you are getting a bargain the reason is because they need to shift them because they are poor sellers.

 

What Car made the 2015 What Car of the Year the Mk3 Fabia that nobody yet had, and predicted good residuals. They never apologise.

 

Car mags seem to think losing 48% in 3 years is good.   

Do you notice that Journalists big up cars that they do not buy with their own money?

Drivers cars like the Toyota GT86 / Subaru BRZ's.  Then Dealerships sit with them and can not shift them, new, demonstrator or used until they drop prices.

 

Why would a Journalist predict good future values on cars not selling well and that Dealerships are having to reduce the price of to sell

as being in demand in the future used?

they will only be in demand maybe if they are going to be 'bargains'.

 

Are KIA doing as much Advertising with Motoring Journals as VW Group have been doing over the years where the predictions are only backed up by VW Group owning so many of the New Cars then leasing them and their Dealerships getting them back in and advertising with crazy 'Asking Prices'.

Go to a Kia dealership, sit down and tell them you want to put £5,000 deposit on a new Stinger GTS over 3 year PCP and she what the GFV is in 3 years time when you either buy it outright, chop it in for something else, or hand it back and you will find how much it will depreciate.:notme:

According to finance calc it’ll be worth £17k after 3 years at 10k miles a year with £5k deposit. That’s based on a PCP for a 18 plate GTS with 4K miles on it already - £34950 is the cash price. 

 

Wouldn’t bother buying a new one - £40k tax band nonsense, VAT lost straight away, so much depreciation it’s ridiculous no matter what you buy. We’ve lost £11k in 2 years on our A3 cabriolet that we bought new with a load of extras, very well kept and only 12000 miles on it....

Decision made. Need a change from Skoda and a S3 280 would just feel too much like my vRS - and I had a Mk 2 vRS before this one!

 

Thanks to all of you guys for your thoughts & opinions, much appreciated.
