Windscreen

Featured Replies

Anyone think that the VAG windscreens are bad quality. I have loads of micro chips in the windscreen.

I don’t drive close to cars in front and the paintwork is pristine.

Gettkg into the Autumn/winter now the sun is getting lower, all I can see is tiny shiny flickers.

Anyobeekse have this problem?

Noticed this whilst out washing the car this afternoon - same issue, although my paintwork has a small amount of micro-chips (no, not those microchips) across the main face of the grill and front third of the bonnet.

I already had a large chip AutoGlass'd back in 2017, and was surprised to find similar flickers - mainly around / close to the wipers. Few friends with VAG cars have similar issues too. Starting to think it might be quality issue, particularly with heated windscreens.

No different ot any other car I have owned. All screens get peppered with small particles of grit in the air from passing vehicles, not just those you follow. Its unavoidable.

The the tempered hardness of the glass has to be to a particular spec for debris impact and chassis strength but thin enough to contribute to keeping overall vehicle weight down for emissions regs.

Seems a bit worse these days, but not anything that couldn’t be attributed to the poorer road surfaces leaving more debris to be flicked up.

mine is peppered, the screen took a big hit the second week i had it, two large missles fell off a recycling lorry. just waiting for the zero temps to see if the chips will crack.

Always check availability of a replacement and a fitting appointment before the 'unexpected accidental breaking of a windscreen' & using the insurance cover .

This ^^

The condition of the road surfaces in the UK generally are very poor.

The biggest factor in increased insurance premiums are fraudulent and moody claims.

I have spoken to a few people who were considering this (or another similar) product after having their windscreen replaced. None of them went through with it because, AFAICS, the feedback generally isn't great. I'm yet to find someone who is using it or has used.

Insurance fraud is ridiculous, and crash for crash and Ambulance Chasers & Insurance ripping off on the Courtesy Cars and many things.

Someone making sure the windscreen that got hit by stones or other stuff coming off HGV's or other vehicles and might break on them anyplace anytime breaks where it happens safely is committing fraud obviously.

Pity that Main Dealers & the Replacement Glass Industry / Fitting firms were not more on the ball with the stock of screens, and the response that can not leave someone car or vanless, or requiring a Hire or Courtesy car.

There are Karoq owners left carless because Skoda UK has imported cars yet dealers seem to have issues getting screens and the Windsceen Companies the Insurance Companies have contracts with,

snide contracts as it is in some cases.

Then there are the Windscreen Companies with the 'Customer Paying Price'  & the Insurance Claim Invoices.

PS

Roads have nothing to do with many windscreen that a 'star sparkled'.

Cars that go no place and get no chips can get 'sand / grit blasted' from being parked near farmland or quarries, dry weather and windy days or nights is all it can take.

I have had cars that were bad within weeks of being brand new and gone no place. Or used cars with no damage that are ruined in no time just parked.

I now parking them facing in the different direction when the wind is blowing.
