Yeti 1.2Tsi petrol gearbox oil change - 6 speed manual

Featured Replies

2010 1.2 Tsi S Yeti - manual gearbox.  Is there an actual drain plug?

I have seen in the workshop manuals.com site the OAJ gearbox check oil level description showing the plug to remove for inspection ......but can find nowhere (on internet etc.) anything showing a drain plug for the OAJ 6 speed manual box.  Does one have to suck the old oil out via the inspection plug hole??

I know that Skoda say no oil change required as oil is there for life of vehicle.......that is ridiculous  (what they really mean is "for SHORTENED life"  VAG have lost all my confidence and SKODA UK likewise as they have an extremely poor customer service attitude and just deny any problems exist.

SO IS THERE A DRAIN PLUG OR NOT?

Gearbox oil is thicker than engine oil and as engine oil gets contaminants and works harder and gets hot that's why you change it  Gearbox oil does not get as hot . Only thing it does get is metal particles so a magnet clears them out of the oil. They say end of life is about 10 years 100,000 miles (DSG oil you do)

Gearbox oil is not necessarily thicker than engine oil.

In use, gearbox oil gets pretty hot through shearing but also heat transmitted from the engine; generally the gearbox has no water or oil cooling circuit.  Hence oxidation and thermal degradation are an issue.  As well as wear debris - a magnet can only collect ferro-magnetic particles, so not aluminium or copper alloys.

Fill for life really means fill for expected serviceable life, not fill forever.  Replacing the oil will always be a good thing, so long as you do it right.  I’m not familiar with the VAG ‘boxes but sometimes with no drain plug you need to remove a plate or crack the case open.

Is this not the drain plug?
