Bolero Dim light issue

Featured Replies

Just retrofitted a Bolero from a 2011 octavia, is a Blaupunkt unit.  Having the Dim screen issue making it difficult to see the screen in daytime.

Been searching on the forum and havent found any solutions so far. Has anyone found a work around or fix for this issue?

My CanBus has been upgraded with PT/No 7N0 907 530H, have FL maxi dot and FL climate controls, (this shouldnt have any effect on the HU)

I am thinking that the newer MK2 bolero HU's use the light sensors off the Auto lights and auto dim mirror (as opposed to sensor in HU)

but cant find any proof of this as its all through the can bus.  Who has 2011+ bolero's fitted and if so are they fitted in conjuction with auto lights ect?

cheers.

Are you riding with your headlights on and the Bolero switching to night time illumination?

Plenty of factory fitted Bolero's in cars without a RLS (rain light sensor) so it's unlikely to be that.

I'd start with an autoscan and checking for any fault codes.

Does the brightness change with the headlights on/off or with the dash dimmer switch?

Ive tried selecting headlights on and off and the screen brightness remains the same, i can make the screen dimmer with the lighting dimmer switch.  Its like the screen is stuck in night time run mode.   There is also the possiblity that the backlight is broken, I dont know how dark they get without it.

Also there are no fault codes active which could cause this issue, I have an Ariel code and parking assist code but thats it,  No faults on can bus.

there is an option in the settings to set the brightness, its not on the lowest setting is it?

There is a brightness setting in the menu, and screen modes. I have exhausted all options using these adjustments,  still won't increase its brightness over a set level, which is low during daytime.  I would like to rule out any potential issues with the screen light itself.  Does anyone know of anywhere that does test/repair on these units?

Ok so after alot of messing around on VCDS I have decided like many to throw in the towel and get a columbus.  I tried messing around with vcds to see if I could enable the light sensor in the cluster (I have retrofit FL vrs clocks)  but to no avail. I was hoping the 2011 bolero used this sensor to set it's brightness settings and by enabling it, would solve the issue. I found my dash wasn't using this sensor either, and as the radio seemed to do whatever the speedo dials were doing,  thought they were linked.  Hopefully someone will crack this someday!
