VRS Rear brake upgrade help

Featured Replies

HI Folks,

I want to upgrade the rear brake setup from the 272mm solid discs on my 2016 VRS and I've found loads of kits online to upgrade to the 310mmx22mm vented disc setup but they are all with electric handbrake callipers. So what I want to know is can you get the 310mm vented disc setup with a proper manual handbrake?

Below is an example of what I'm finding online.

Any info or input is much appreciated.

Should also mention I can find the mechanical handbrake in the Golf Mk5 and 6 variants but do these fit? As the 2016 VRS is the equivalent of a mk7.

Again Many Thanks

The my18 vRS245 has a mechanical handbrake with 310mm ventilated rear discs.

All MK7 R have EPB...as the NAR market ones are made in Germany...

all other NAR MK7 Golfs have manual handbrake...& Most Audis have EPB

look for other MQB platform cars...like Seat or Skoda..

No need to look at MQB cars, the Mk5 Golf R32 setup has same mechanical handbrake as the Mk3 Octy, has the 310mmx22mm vented setup and bolts straight on. Easy to find used.

As you have a 4x4 you will need the dust shields from a late 4x4 car with 310mm brakes. The 8V Audi S3 ones fit. The mk5 golf has a different bolt pattern to the dust shields so cannot be used but the correct part is available off the shelf, not expensive either and does the job right.

As flybynite wrote, Mk5 R32 rear calipers and rotors go on easy. You need longer brake hoses and the handbrake cable needs to be moved slightly to reach different position on the R32 calipers. I have that upgrade on my 2013. 2.0TDI coupled with Mk7 R front calipers and rotors.
