15mm Spacers + Car Bra Fitted!!

Featured Replies

Some of you will have seen the other thread, where I have just bought some 19" ASA AR1's - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=49596 - but I don't intend to fit those for a while so I have bought a couple of other items that you might be interested in seeing?

First of all I have fitted some 15mm spacers to the rear of the car as follows:

P1010003.jpg

P1010004.jpg

P1010005.jpg

P1010007.jpg

P1010008.jpg

P1010009.jpg

P1010010.jpg

P1010011.jpg

Then I got home to find that my 'Bonnet Bra' had arrived from Germany and I have now fitted that as follows:

So what do you think? I know that people aren't a fan of the 'Bonnet Bra' but who else has one on their Superb? I only intend to use it for the shows, I don't think it looks too bad at all? Opinons? What about the spacers? Make a massive difference to the stance IMO!!

what is the bonnet bra meant to do?? and can you get them in different colours? think it would be ok if it was the same colour as the car-at the moment it stands out and dosent really suit it.

I like it, your car looks good and looking forward to seeing those 19's on it.

Are you only fitting the spacers to the rear, or on the front also? And is there a need for any other work to be done, or can they be fitted straight on to a standard car? Car is looking sweet :-)

What's the thingy on the side of the bumpers?

The bonnet bra is really a product that comes from America. If you head over the seas then you will see a lot of yank tanks with car bras that even cover the whole front end of the car!! It's purely just to prevent stone chips on he bonnet and bumper, the only reason I bought one is because I think that they look a little different and I want to hide some stone chips as opposed to preventing them, LOL!!

All car bars and bonnet bras come in black but I thought it fits in with the bump strips and grilles?

I have only fitted spacers to the rear but I am confident that I can easily get away with some on the front, so I will be ordering some shortly.

No work needed when fitting spacers, you just have to make sure you have longer wheels bolts and locking nuts, remove your wheel, put the spacer behind it and then tighten the wheel back on, simple. Then stand back and admire your slightly wider stance, LOL!!

Thanks for your comment mate.

They are Hella LED side markers and they illuminate as follows:

Ever seen them on Volvo's and again if you go to America they are a legal requirement. They are a retro fit kit that we sell and they come in three different colour backgrounds, IMO they look great at night - time, LOL!!

The wider stance look loads better. Probably go the same way once I've had my 19's fitted. Not sure if there will be room for 15mm spacers at the front when 235/35 tyres fitted??

What drop do you have on the coilovers?? I know you've said before but I can't remember. Looking for the same look when I get mine done. The v-maxx ones drop 30-65mm.

Well your right about not running spacers when you have the bigger rims but with these rims I should be fine, so I will buy another set for the front but maybe 13mm this time? We will see what happens......

The front is dropped 45mm and the rear 35mm. I did have the front dropped 55mm but it wouldn't come off the ramps!! The rear is as low as it will go and although KW stated it can lower the car 65mm it's not true!! I would be surprised if the V-Maxx's go lower than the KW's, I am sure you will find out when they are on the car?

Looking good with those spacers, not entirely sure about the bra, but agree with your comment about no one else having one.

Loving those side light markers, am still interested as discussed :-)

Thanks mate, I guess that bra is not everyone's 'cup of tea'!!

As I stated in my PM mate, I am on he case!!

Excellent looking car, top work.

Get the spacers on the front to balance the track up and you can have a gold star.

i know the bra's a bit different but never really seen the point: i reckon a stonechipped bonnet looks better than one with a tarpaulin over it...

Thanks mate, I am not the case with the front spacers, just waiting for the next 'Group Buy' to be organised again and I have them on order!!

Tarpaulin!! Now that is funny mate, LOL!!

I guess that it's never going to win people over but hey, I like it!!

Thanks for the comments mate.

am really really liking the spacers though. any downside to using them? handle any different/tramline? any significant increase in stress to hubs? they look great...

The spacers are just there to make the wheels the right offset from the hub. Thay can sometimes ba a pin to fit and you should notify your insurer that they are fitted.

Shouldnt stress the hubs at all, if you think of the spacer as part of the wheel you'll see what I mean.

Obviously you'll have to use longer wheel bolts too.

Thanks mate, they really are a good 'mod' IMO.

I used to have some on my Bora and that changed the handling drastically but on the Superb I haven't noticed any difference? I am confident that the rear wheels are out more without the spacers compared to the fronts so all I have done is popped them out a bit.

With regards to stresses, I have no idea, I mean it's clear that there will be more stress but I have longer bolts and they are hubcentric spacers so they are as strong as they can be, I believe that it's something that people worry about but I have never heard of anyone with long term problems.

How close are the holes in the spacers to thethread on the bolts that pass through them? Theoretically you could strain the bolts on the fronts under acceleration because the wheel will lag behind the hub as the torque is applied (if you see what I mean). Think of the wheel in the same position without the spacer in place and you'll see what I mean, the bolts will try and twist a little.

The holes are right next to the start of the thread mate?

No problems IMO!!
