Serious Skoda Connect Use

Featured Replies

Has anyone actually used Skoda Connect seriously?

In particular, I'm asking about the Remote Access functionality ... like Honk & Flash (for more than just fun), but more seriously the vehicle location ..... for example, to locate a Suberb after it has been stolen?

Just wondering if this actually works in serious circumstances (and if it's worth paying for)

In case you are not aware, the car will not update its GPS position while moving, I would presume the area warning would but haven't tested it.

I have renewed the Skoda Connect, I like to check the lock status (would be nice to be able to lock from the app) and send destinations to the sat nav. Also coming up on my 30Km service, my chosen service partner rang me to book the car in as asked what the warning light on the dash was. It was the Adblue low level warning, Not sure if they didn't understand the light or if they were not given specifics.

Have not had reason to use the Honk & Flash other than messing about, like when the car in a paint shop for a few days, it may have got annoying

Thanks for the reply. Have to say though that I have had the vehicle location display up on my mobile (internet connection active) , and it shows my vehicle moving along the road

I'm using Skoda Connect for the webasto heater and also to report driven km as it's a company car.

As stated above - location only works when stationary and ignition of (but I've never tested when someone else drives it)

I've used honk and flash to scare of some kids that was just a little bit to curious. It's really annoying that "honk and flash" is hidden so deep into the menus - it takes some time to get there.

I rarely use the feature of sending a destination to the car but when doing so it works like a charm :)

These comments about the vehicle location not working whilst the engine is running and the keys are in the ignition.....

I checked this out again yesterday and I have to say that I get a little blue dot with a blue arrow on it (pointing in vehicle motion direction) whilst the vehicle is moving (Connect app installed on Samsung phone).

The dot updates every second and shows the vehicle travelling along the road. Map does not auto re-centre nor does it auto zoom.

It also says (bottom of screen) "location data not available as vehicle is in motion" (not quite true as the display continuously updates)

However, I also discovered ... all it's really doing is tracking the phone position. If the phone is out of the vehicle and the vehicle drives off, the display is not updated.

So I guess it only updates the location (to a Skoda server somewhere?) when the vehicle is parked up and the keys are out.

So ....... back to my original question ...... is it really of any use to track the location of the vehicle if it has been stolen?

Would seem to me its a 'built in' tracker ... but is it really? Can it be disabled (easily) by a car thief for example?

From the comments here, it would seem that leaving the keys in the ignition could/would also stop it reporting the location?

Yes it can be disabled in the infotainment screen.
