Blower fan/heater resistor failure?

Featured Replies

Hi

The blowers on my MK1 Fabia have started to work intermittently. Setting 1 has always been a bit useless, 2 and 3 have got worse over the years and now 4 has packed up.

When I first start the engine they'll work for a few minutes then stop. If I turn them off for 20 minutes then try again theyll work for a couple of minutes before dying again.

After some searching I came across the thread below about the resistor failing & causing this problem. Looks a fairly straightforward fix so I'm going to give it a go. Can anyone confirm the part I need though, is it the one in the second link below? Thanks!

Part I need to replace?

Ever replaced the cabin/pollen filter?

Speed 4 doesn't use the resistor, so that suggests an alternative cause of the trouble.

Agreed, I would be more inclined to think its either a poor connection or motor related if occuring on all speeds.

Think the filter got done about 5 years ago? I'll give that a go first, then investigate further.

If it's a connection or motor issue is that quite a bit more complicated to find & fix?

Just read here about pollen filter replacement, someone mentioned their footwall was wet, so I may have a leak somewhere around there too.

During the storm a few weeks back my passenger footwell was soaked, rainwater must've got in somehow. (Made my car stink like cat **** too??)
