Unleaded in vRS, Advice please

I have foolishly filled my vRS (from empty) with unleaded fuel. I have been using a work Renault Megane for a few weeks which is unleaded and back in my furby today to fill it up, filled it with unleaded on autopilot.

I got about 200 yards or so and it cut out and I obviously realised my mistake. I phoned the AA (Skoda Assist number) who recovered it to a local garage (not a Skoda garage). The drained the fuel and I filled it up with diesel and it seems to be OK.

My worry now is to do with my warranty though, the mechanic at the garage seemed to think that Skoda would now refuse to honour my warranty which I have 2.5 years left off. I asked how they would know and he told me that the AA who do the breakdown for Skoda Assist would tell them.

Does anyone know if this is correct and if so, does it void my warranty?

it sounds right for the warranty skoda do not have to honuour any warranty claims that could be linked to the mis fuel the only way to get round it is what we have to do on jaguars replace everything fuelpump injectors feul lines at the cost of the customer

It should be just fine.

Might be worth changing the filter though.

It seems to me that if the AA/Skoda assist took you to a non-Skoda garage to have the car repaired, that they surely must accept some responsibility too!

Anyway, it doesn't matter if you take a Skoda car to another garage as, so long as the work done is up to the standard that Skoda would expect. I see no reason why you shouldn't have the rest of your warranty honoured, but then again, I'm by no means an expert.

The issue is not where it was taken to, but the fact it was run on the incorrect fuel.

Lummox, thanks for your reply also. Can I just clarify though my question as to the warranty. do you know if this type of thing invalidates it?

If I was to go into a Skoda dealership and ask for my fuel filter to be changed, will this not set alarm bells ringing and they could inform Skoda?

What sort of cost is involved in a main dealer supplying and fitting a new fuel filter?

change the fuel filter yourself they aren't expensive and the haynes manual for a golf will tell you where it is and how to change it.

I think the warranty would not be honoured for any faults relating to the mis-fueling of the car. e.g. if you need a new fuel pump (because the unleaded stripped all the lubrication) then that wouldn't be replaced. But if your electric mirror switch packs up, it will be done under warranty.

I shouldn't worry about it, bunter. You drove a total of 200 yards on the wrong fuel, and it runs just fine, as you said, now it's been refilled with the correct fuel. I doubt if any lasting damage will have been done in that short time. Take Lummox's advice - he knows what he's talking about, and change the filter, then forget about it :thumbup:

As Tom said really, if you have any faults relating to the fuel system/engine they may well void any claims. But chances are you will be just fine. Seen it happen plenty of times and it hasnt damaged a PD, a regular TDi yes, but not a PD.

It should go well for a few miles anyway!! Seriously. It will be fine. A mate of mine has done it twice in his BMW 530. He still has a warranty AND no damage at all

I believe it is the same as with modifications. Fitting none standard parts (like doing the 312mm conversion) invalidates the warranty but ONLY where a problem occurs DUE to the conversion. So you are covered for everything except for any problems that occur due to using the wrong fuel.

I would guess anyway, they shouldn't invalidate the warranty on anything that is not related to using the wrong fuel.

Since the fuel was drained at a non-Skoda garage though, is it possible that they wouldn't ever be able to tell that this had had the wrong fuel in it and that my warranty would be fine?

Does anyone know if Skoda Assist feedback to Skoda on all the call outs for each Skoda car that comes with 3 years AA cover?

Although this is how it tends to work in practice, it's worth noting that officially *any* modifications will invalidate *all* of your warranty...so there is every risk that Skoda could refuse a claim and the Ts&Cs will cover them for this... :)

I was always under the impression if you filled up a diesel with unleaded and then started the engine it would absolutely knacker it. There's some AA adverts on the radion here in London at the moment that say the same. Still if it's working fine then I suspect there'll be no lasting damage. I put 20 litres of diesel in my p6 Rover V8 a few years ago and nearly died on the forecourt of embarassment. When I rang the AA, the guy just said to top it up with LRP and drive around until it's all burnt off - I seriously don't think the engine even noticed !!

Three weeks today 'til i get my vRS!!!!!!

Diesel in a petrol will work, just lots of smoke! but Petrol in Diesel will not!
