New car picked up - couple of light related questions

Featured Replies

I picked up my new Octy vRS this morning - as signature below.

Once I got stopped I noticed that on boot opening neither boot light came on. I gave each light a "tap" and the light came on. Drove the rest of the way home and the same story, boot open, no lights, "tap" and on they came.

Just a lose connection? Something I should be able to investigate myself?

Also noticed some light internal condensation on the headlights. It is quite cool out and the lights had been on. Just wondering if there is anything to worry about?

Loving the car so far - will post some pics into the picture thread a little later.

Check the bulbs inside the holders, they might be slightly loose or have slid down the unit. Also worth checking the connection too but the bulb seating is probably the more likely issue.

Some light condensation isn't unknown on these particular when it gets cold.

Whoah whoah whoah dont investigate anything, you should have turned around and been back on the forecourt for them to sort and for a free coffee as soon as you noticed it!

Which would have been fine, but I was by then 90 miles away from said dealership.

There is obviously still main dealer warranty here, but if it's just lose bulbs, then to save hassle might be worth taking a look myself.

As for the condensation, if a known "feature" then I won't worry and just mention at next service.

If someone has fitted LEDs into the VAG bulb holders (Boot/Footwell/Glovebox) then they can be a bit iffy, there is a ridge around the unit which has to be trimmed to get it to fit. If it’s a bright white light the man it’s more likely to be LED but if it’s sickly yellow the. It will be Incandescent.

I fitted LED all round and then put bulbs back into Boot Light holders for the exact same reason.

Yeah, same as I found when I put LED bulbs in mine. Had to bend the mounting posts ever so slightly.

My lights do it when I've washed the car. Don't know if it's because I use a both a hot wash to clean it and then to chamois it dry.

When I "tap" the lights and then come on they are definitely yellow, so doesn't look like they have had an LCD upgrade.

I'll go and take a look tomorrow and reseat the bulbs - most certainly going to potentially look at an LCD swap myself, however recommendation seems to be to buy complete units to plug in rather than just changing the bulbs in the original.

Whoa, an LCD upgrade lol

It was late, I should have been sleeping - or maybe I'm going to put two small, tiny LCD panels in the boot instead?

Who knows :)
