Window tint problem

Featured Replies

I'm hoping that someone may be able to give some advice and info regarding a window tint problem I've got.  Around 6 weeks ago I had the rear windows tinted by Globaltint.  I chose them because the price was good.  £162, and they came to the house to do it.  On the day it was done I noticed that the tint wasn't right up to the edges of the small rear quarter windows.  The guy assured me that it would "flatten" out over the next couple of days and any air bubbles would also disappear.  I had to take him at his word, though not really believing this would happen.  The next day I also noticed a few small air bubbles appearing around the tops of the side windows.  In Globaltint's terms and conditions you're asked to wait 4 weeks for everything to settle down before making a complaint.  After the 4 weeks the edging around the quarter windows was just the same and there was now even more air bubbles on the side windows.  I complained to Globaltint about the problem and gave me a date when the guy would come back and have look.  Well, he's been today and by his own admission said that it was unsatisfactory and he'd do it again.  He spent around 3 hours doing the job and when I had a look it still had the same bad edging around the quarter windows.  It's like a thin white line all the way around which doesn't look good.  Luckily there was no air bubbles on the side windows this time.  I said that I still wasn't happy with the job and he told me that it just wasn't possible to get the tint right up the edge of the rubber without a thin band of the glass showing through.  Instead of it looking somewhere near factory tints it actually looks like tints that have started to peel off after a few years.  In the end he said he could do no more and offered to refund my money, which he did.  I'm now going to try somewhere local to see if they can make a better job of it.  I'd be interested to know if anyone who has had tints fitted to the rear if they've also had a problem with a bad edge around the quarter windows and air bubbles appearing.  I've tried to take a photo to show what the problem is but all I'm getting is reflections on the glass and not showing the problem.  Sorry for the long post

Hello, I had my tints done by a guy locally and I've not noticed anything odd about the edges or air bubbles appearing. Had them done in January this year.

Not an expert on this by any means, but probably not ideal them coming to you and doing it, rather than having it done in a maintained low dust unit.

Just what I was thinking, id have thought it needs to be done in a stable environment to stop dust etc.

How / where did they do it then, in a van?

He did it inside my garage with heating and lighting.

I had my L&K tinted at a local firm in Newcastle - don’t mind calling them out as they’re great (Custom Tint).

They made a great job of my O3 and now they’ve done my 5 series too. None of what you mentioned was noticeable on mine.

(Forgive the rather unflattering winter wheels that were on at the time!)

Thanks for that.  I'm not far from the "Toon" so might give them a try.  From the same distance away your car was photographed from mine looks ok but not close up :crying:

@silverden   Sadly you have been taken in by an incompetent.   £162 is what they are due you in the way of a refund.

@silverden highly recommend them. They’re renowned as the best tinters in the north east. They’re actually Gateshead - team valley trading estate.

Sorry that’s the only pic I’ve got left of it, but it was definitely a great job.

Still some dodgy tinting jobs around. An Astra pulled across the front of my car and I could barely see that there was anyone driving. As a pedestrian it can also be difficult to see someone through the windscreen when crossing the road. No wonder they need those super bright led headlights.

My garage is clean, dry and warm, but i wouldn't want to attempt a window tint in it.  I think your right to look for another company to do the work and ideally at their premises.
