My Boot is full of water!

Featured Replies

Hi, we were having a tidy up inside our 2016 Yeti last week, and I lifted the boot carpet to hoover up the sand....very surprised to find the floor pan VERY wet, with puddles and a sodden carpet underlay, beginning to go mouldy!  Having dried everything out as much as possible, using towels, sunshine and silica gel sachets, we are now waiting to see if this was a spillage of water, or ingress from welding behind the door catch area. Has anyone else experienced this? The water was clean, but I cannot understand how it came to be in the tool kit that sits above where the spare wheel would be, if it was a leak in the weld under the back door?   We do have a rubberised tray covering the carpet in the boot to keep the carpet clean, and maybe that prevented evaporation of this water, but there did seem to be an awful lot of it...thanks in advance for any comments...

Have seen this issue reported a few times but not for a while.

If you cannot find where it is coming in, when fully dry dust some talc around the sides and anywhere you think it could leak. that should show where any leak is coming from if it leaks in again.

Not sure if this also applies to the Yeti, but when this happens in the MkII Octavia it is normally due to the rear washer pipe/jet becoming blocked, causing the pipe to detach and windscreen washer fluid to run down the tailgate and pool around the boot floor.

What about rear drains if you have a sunroof?

However rear washer pipe is most likely.

A 2016 Yeti should still be under warranty.  Book it into your dealer and let them sort it out.  They’ll probably need a few days to water test it so make sure you get a courtesy car for the duration of the repair unless you don’t need one.

Problem with that is if they cannot find a problem they will charge you for the labour for their 'Investigation'.

I suspect the replacement EGR Cooler they installed has failed within the two year warranty period. Was informed if they could not find an issue with it I would be charged £90ph.

That’s standard dealer practice to protect themselves from diagnosing a problem and the customer then disappearing into the sunset to get a repair done cheaper elsewhere.  A leak should be easy enough to diagnose.  Either it leaks under a water test or it doesn’t, in which case a leaking washer pipe would be the next thing to look for.  Washer liquid should have a distinctive smell over rain water.

Thanks for all the comments above. Water is definitely leaking in from somewhere, car is now back at dealership being looked at. They just better not be thinking of charging me for 'worn seals', ggrrr!

Hi, the car has been in the dealership for a week. The service advisor suggested a problem with the panoramic roof, till we pointed out we don't actually have one......   They finally tracked the leak to a worn/insecure boot strut mounting bracket. They've declared her leak free, so we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed it's fixed.  Thanks for your comments.

Perhaps he hadn't been on the "Diagnose existence of a sunroof" course.

oops that should of course read "he/she"....

He/She/blank,may have been on the 'sit at the desk and make something up to keep the customer quiet' course, which is learned very early on and is basic sales logic.
