Can't close clic clamps - any advice please?

Featured Replies

Hi,

in order to fix a persistent oil leak, I've had to replace my oil filter housing.

Putting everything back together, and I'm having no luck at all in closing the "clic" hose clips on the inlet manifold pipes to cylinder head.

I'm using a pair of "clic & clic-r" type pliers I bought to do the job (which opened them up in a jiffy!)

They're squeezing the clips closed no problem, but the catches are just not gripping.

It's the first time I've worked on this type of clip, and assume I'm missing something, or doing something wrong.

Should I be bending any part of the old clips before re-fitting?

Any advice would be appreciated - I'd rather re-fit the original clips than replace them if possible.

Really, really frustrated!!

Try and see if there is video guidance on youtube.

Many thanks jong123. One of the reasons I ended-up posting was not finding anything on you-tube (or indeed on briskoda).

Equally, there aren't many videos or posts on how to use a screwdriver - reinforcing my suspicion that I've missed something / done something stupid.

So I've obtained another pair of "Clic & Clic-r" pliers from a different source, and now that they've arrived (and I can see them in the flesh, not a picture on the web), I'm reasonably hopeful that the original tool I was using was the issue here.

I'll follow-up again when I've had some time at home in daylight!

Cheers

Just in case anyone else trips over the same issue - It's simply what pliers you end up with.

All four clips popped back on this morning in less than a minute..

The ones that worked for me were Laser tools 3397.

No identification on the first pair, ebay purchase. Key issue is the dimensions of the flat head side of the pliers - see photo for clarification.

(blue handles good, red handles bad).
