front - rear Skoda badges different?

Featured Replies

I like the black details of the Sportline and how it replaces all the silver bits with glossy black, the only chrome-y bit left on the Sportline front is the Skoda badge. So I was thinking how to make that match the rest of the black details. First thing that came to mind (and Google) was the full black Skoda badges, but I am not sure I like them, (never liked them on any car actually, even sportier ones) Just too much black on something which should supposedly be the car's ID.

Then randomly I came across a nice picture of a quartz grey Sportline that seemed to have found the ideal solution: Emblem background same as the car's colour (as opposed to stock black) while chrome lines replaced with glossy black, just perfect:

Upon further searching I discovered these are off the shelf items you can order from Superskoda at the exact paint of your car :

Skoda emblems in car paint-black combo

But then, in that description it specifically mentions: "for the FRONT" which which seems weird as I've seen cars with the full black badges front and rear. There is also not a "REAR" version either.

So are the emblems front and rear different in diameter or attachment method that would prevent using the above items at both ends?

So in what sense they are different? Diameter or attachment method? Seems weird because  I was watching a vid of an Octavia being built at the factory earlier and both badges seemed to be attached the same way, just align the pins and push in till it clicked (and presumable some glue too to keep them there). And different diameters front and back would not make much sense...

I would happily buy it off you but mine's quartz grey

I’d assume the front one has more curvature because of where it sits on the bonnet, whereas the rear one won’t.

(Off finding some close-ups from front and rear to test the theory)

You can get the front and rears in black from Superskoda

I have the front one ready to fit, should have done it last weekend but the weather was awful

I rather like that. Maybe that's my Christmas sorted...

My problem is I don't want to go full black so these car-matching paint/black combo was the best option.

But if they don't offer a rear one to match it's pointless really, I hate half-finished jobs.

the front has three pins the back two and believe its also marginally smaller?

Being smaller is an issue but we could double-check this.

Re the pins, are they in the same positions minus one missing (wishful thinking) or just different positions? Cos if the former is true you could easily cut the extra pin off and fit them.

Ok, I just watched the Octavia building video and I took a screenshot of both emblems and they both seem to have 3 pins and in identical (as precise as it's possible to see) positions, as opposed to being just two at the back, I wonder why it would look different in that vid. Unless the Superb gets badges with different pins for some reason.

In any case, even if they are not matching the chassis holes, one could completely disregard the pins, cut them all off and still align the emblem using more traditional methods (marking). The only issue I see is the emblem diameter. @DIYnewbie could you measure front and rear badges diameter whenever you get the chance?

Update: Superskoda, lists the same item for Octavia without mentioning "FRONT only" so apparently it's the Superb that has a different rear badge, bugg3r...

Still, if the diameters are the same it can be modified to fit...

correct - different part number for the rear when it comes to the Superb.
otherwise the front is the same as others, inlcuding the Octavia.

Front: O3-ZNK-BLK

Rear: S3-ZNK-BLK-RR

i also notice they only have front color coded badges for the Superb, no equivalent ones for the rear.

just monte black for the rear.
