New Octavia vRS - 5,000 Mile Report

Featured Replies

Mine is in KM/l, I roughly worked it out and was getting 25 mpg. Just wanted to make sure it was the norm ;)

Gaff, take the l/100km figure and divide it into 282.

eg 7.0 l/100 km = 282/7 = 40 mpg.

Actually after driving it this evening its more like a vibration through clutch pedal half way up than a noise :o

 Don't tell me you've broken it already!!!!;)

Hi Gaff. The noise you hear when you engage your clutch. Mine does it too, so maybe it's normal. I think it's the sound of it engaging. Only noticed it at low speeds, ie parking etc.

Makefish - sorted the seatbelt banging on the b pillar, you were right

Now, would be interested to hear if anyone else has a whining noise from the gearbox/diff. Noticable mostly when slowing down in gear. Also when setting off/driving away, taking it up to 2500k, change, same again. Sounds like a straight cut box but quieter.

:woohoo: , I might be invited to be on 'Ask a Tech' with my ever expanding knowledge!. :P

Hi Guys

I have also just clocked up the 5000 mark and have had no problems except 1 strange thing !!

I was coming back from Harlow a couple of weeks ago with some heavy tooling in the boot and the radio did not work , it all lit up but no sound ?

The following morning took the weight out (150 kgs) and the radio worked ok when I turned it on, on the way home that night ?

Average fuel consumption 26.8 but often see low teens on way home from work, cross country blatt.

It does do 150 !!!!!!

I agree that now the warmer weather is coming it could do with a bit more GO but the traction control does come in alot when accelerating hard, we will see.

The height above the tyres does look too big, a bit like the Scooby before I lowered it so will have to look at lowering the Octy, any ideas ???

Overall impression so far very good.

Koni FSD shocks, and eibach springs seem most likely for me.

More power is a must. I heard that a remapped one drives so much better, and the chassis/brakes/suspension can handle the increase very well. ;)

Hope you "sampled the goods".

Mpg wise' date=' I drove to Weston at a leisurely Friday traffic kind of pace, and got 36 mpg.

Return journey was 3 figures all the way home, and got 26 mpg. Can't complain at all.[/quote']

:o I didn't call into the chippy -- was again well on my way home when I thought on  still will be up again in a couple of weeks

On one private three lane highway I did see the quoted top speed

Have to agree re suspension and the cars ability to cope with more power.

With regards the whining -- yup mine does that too, so again must be normal

really need to try and do something about the engine -- sounds so rough, gonna get my hands on a Golf GTi and see whats different on the intake -- they sound a lot better

I found an easier way,

Press and hold up arrow on side of right stalk (the one for cycling through Mpg, Avg Mpg etc). It will bring you into a menu, one of the options brings you into a list of ways you want the fuel consumption shown. To select use the reset buttom under the stalk.

:D

At 9.5 l/100km I was getting 29.5 MPG

I've had my Octy vRS for 5 Days and only 3 of them proper driving. The car has just had its third tank of Super (97) which my Fuel Card pays for :) and it has done 800 miles.

BTW: The car is great, Driving it is great even without the vRS side the Octavia is a wonderful car to be in. Also te vRS is a real head turner.

Unfortunately being a company car driver (I opted out as my other option was an Astra 1.7TD LX) I cannot really mod the car until 4 years are up.
