Updating Map software

Featured Replies

Pretty disappointed with my dealer.

Have an issue where on a few occasions all settings for Radio (channels stored etc) have simply disappeared - as if system reset.

Called dealer advised it needed satem software reinstalled.

Waited for 1st service -

Booked car in with 3 weeks notice to have:

  • 1st service
  • System software reinstalled
  • maps updated

Picked car up .....  service done

System software not touched - advised no update, I had asked for reinstall not update.

Maps not done - given piece of paper with file name- ECE2019, and told go download and install,  they don't have files and takes them too long to download.

Not very good customer experience !!!

Anyway downloaded map file (huge 30GB)  took over an Hr as Skoda server  is only allowing 7.5Mbs download

Anybody know process for install .... the Skoda portal says simply plug the SD card and it updates .... no it doesn't so ... there must be a process/steps to follow to force the upgrade.

I have the Columbus Infotainment System (Kodiaq 2018 Edition)

Hi Sargen, if you pop across to the Karoq section there's a thread about putting the latest map updates in - 2nd page at the moment.

Forgot which car I drive, doh!

Click on the cog icon bottom right of the navigation screen, then click on map version box,  at bottom update maps from sd/usb, click this.

Got it done ... few pointers for others if it helps.

1. Download was very slow .. over an Hr

2.  You need a 64 GB or greater SD card - to unpack file to.

Some glitches - it states that it would not unpack to my card as not FAT32   (it was exFAT format), the unpack utility is wrong ... FAT32 does not support >4GB so it would not work on FAT32 formatted card ..... select 'format' and it proceeds anyway.

3. If you just plug in SD card as Skodaportal video advises it does not upgrade in fact it tries to read upgrade files as audio files.

You need to plug in, then start Nav software ... then it brings up options to upgrade

4. When finished - which took about 3 Hrs (you don't need engine running once upgrade started), it then announces 100%  then 'upgrade failed' ... advises restart ....  but on restart upgrade has taken place OK.

Version shows it is now running ECE 2019

Think SKODA need to update their update tools.

Strange, I didn’t have any problems downloading using the Skoda downloader and the files unpacked to my Fat32 formatted 32GB SD card. Mine updated in the car in less than an hour, but I did get the upgrade failed message, but as you say now shows ECE 2019 so all seems well.

  • 2 weeks later...

What unit do you have ?

You can look on line if update available ... and check it against your ver No.

  • 2 months later...

I'm trying to do this after my car came up with a message on the Navigation page saying that an update was available and did I want to start downloading. The message on the screen said it would be just over 500MB but as I've only got the free Three sim card that only allows 200MB/month, I thought I'd do it via an SD card having downloaded at home.

Download and unpacking of the files went OK but the car just won't recognize that there's an update on the SD card. I even tried taking the SD card with my music out and having only the SD card with the update on it but still no joy.

My SD card is a 128GB micro SD card (in an adapter, obviously) and it came formatted to exFAT and I can't seem to change it from that, but from what I've read above that shouldn't be a problem.

I've loaded the following unpacked folders onto the card:

HIGH12_P175_EU_2019 which then contains a single file metainfo2.txt and two folders, Mib1 and Mib2.  Total size is just under 30GB.

and

GBR_20181213 (for the DAB radio logos).

The car spends about 5 minutes searching when I select the update from SD/USB at the bottom of the navigation version page but then says no update can be found.

I can see the DAB station logos files, although it's a right pain finding the one you want and a lot are just missing (no Classic FM, no Absolute Radio, no Heart...)

Anybody have any idea what I've done wrong?

Try reformatting the card ...

mine upgraded OK .. even though it showed an error.

If you get the message no software found when you try to update the maps on your Columbus ... and .....

if you used a mac to download and transfer map update files try this.... it was the only thing that worked for me.

Download and run an app called Clean My Drive.

You'll see that the mac creates hidden files on the SD you've put your downloads on .. clean the SD inside the app leaving only the downloaded files.

Move the folder contents (1 file and 2 folders in my case) out of the folder into the root of the SD card  (this may not be necessary but I did it to simplify the file structure)

Update the maps in the car as instructed in lots of other threads.
