No ignition!!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Used the car this morning and it was fine. Just gone out to drive it and nothing!! Car has KESSEY. Car will open but cannot get the ignition to switch on. Radio works, interior lights work, main beam flash works - but nothing from the ignition. Dash displays date/time/mileage and door open symbols.

Tried spare set of key and still the same.

Changed the key fob battery and still no ignition.. Absolutely no idea why!

I have noticed the 'Start/Stop' button hasn't been as responsive over the last month of so.

Called Skoda Assist to attend tomorrow.

Have you checked no one stole the engine? :giggle:

Seriously though, if it has Adblue then maybe its run too low and has disabled the engine, though I'm sure in that case some warning message/light would be shown.

IIRC someone else on here had a similar isssue with starter button being unresponsive. Theirs was replaced by a dealer under warranty.

Have you tried giving it a really firm press?

Hi JS, I see that your profile says you have a TDI - so a diesel , does the engine crank-over? if not, possibly the battery has died or is fully discharged - that would probably also explain the stop-start system disabling over the past month.

ISTR someone on here had the start-stop button replaced under warranty after a similar problem. Get Skoda Assist to recover It to the dealer and a courtesy car while they fix it.

Sorry - crossed with Penguin.

Thanks for the replies.

With no ignition lights, cranking the engine isn't an option.

I think the 'stop/start' button is duff.. Nearest dealer is 45 miles away and not a fan of them but I haven't got a choice. Thanks for the comment about a courtesy car, I didn't know I was entitled to one.

The 'Engine Stop/Start' button has failed. A common problem, outside of the Superb too.

Try being a little firmer with it. Will be covered under warranty.

So the technician arrived yesterday. Battery all good, but that's it. Unable to get any diagnostics as the laptop software couldn't 'see' the car via the reading device. He said that it was going to either be related to the instrument panel or the steering column. The car will be recovered to the nearest Skoda dealer.

Got a call from the recovery group and advised that this won't happen until the 27th December as no local dealer will take the car before then. Courtesy car is being arranged (via Enterprise)..

Coincidence that the stop/start button is on the steering column?

The technician was suggesting that there was a module(s) within the column that may need replacing..

Courtesy car was supported to be something from the VAG range (Skodas rules), but there was nothing available - got a Volvo V60 (shame it's not the V90 as I quite like the look of them!)

Interesting to hear the cause of the problem. My Start/Stop button also seems to start failing - needs a harder push to get things moving, a light push will not work anymore. I guess its time to visit the dealer again.

@Puuriit Mine started doing the same about a month ago, wished I'd acted upon it then.

Car has now been recovered the a Skoda dealer. Initially it was going to a dealer in Colchester (40+ miles away), but the recovery guy questioned that because there is a dealer 2 miles from my home ! With the demise of Essex Auto Group as a Skoda dealer (been gone a few years) it seems Beadles opened a dealership on the A127 in Southend - so the car has gone there..

I don't have Kessy but got into my petrol Superb the other week and tried to start it.... Nothing. Tried 2 or 3 times and it did nothing. Took key out and tried again and it worked... I shall be monitoring.

I know it some cars where you've had keyless start/entry deactivated (or the battery in the key is flat) you need to hold the key near the starter button and press it. This is what I would have had to put up with if I'd got a Mazda6 in 2014 because relative had pace-maker and the Mazda manual had a warning about pacemakers and could not find out more... and you couldn't take the risk then could you.

Thank BS contributors..  My Start Button also appears to be failing.   I thought it was just me but deffo getting slowly worse and worried I will be stuck soon.   I happen to have a service tomorrow and tried to ring ahead to pre-warn, but I guess to short notice.

Oh my S3 now done 71K and only other problems

1) chrome strips above doors - kept getting loose and lost one after my old dealer said they fixed it.  New dealer had fixed under warranty

2) orange engine warning light - problem with ignition coil  - fixed under warranty

Great car - best ever !

Current best MPG on a single commute to / from work 80.1

Long Term average 52.5mpg

Yes mine is getting a bit "sticky" too.  Sometimes it is fine but others I have to really press it.

Going in for a service at end of January so will get it checked then.  Still in warranty thankfully!

A wee update on the situation....  Dealer replaced start button module (and all that goes with it) but no joy. Performing diagnostics under the guidance from Head Office they managed to get the car started and running for 2 mins only for it to completely fail again.

The rental company have replaced the V60 with a Kia Optima. As from Monday, the Kia goes back and Skoda are providing a car - I sense this could be a long drawn out affair (although I hope not as I'm really missing the S3).

Car is still not fixed...  Now looking at replacing wiring looms within the dash. Hopefully I'll get an update today.

Currently got a brand new Fabia Monte Carlo.

Still not repaired, still not running, still no ignition lights. The car is now being shipped to the dealer other Skoda dealer in Maidstone as they have more diagnostic equipment, more people to work on it, etc, etc, etc....    The current branch only just opened it's doors as a Skoda dealer..  Should be getting an update tomorrow - let's hope it's positive !

Hi Mine has the same problem

There is one spot that it works on the button but you have to press it a few times

booked in for warranty work next Monday

Mine is getting replaced under warranty.  Button ordered, should be in a few days.

It's still not fixed and to make matters worse, the little Fabia they lent me had a collision with a pigeon on the M25 yesterday. Outcome is the bird is dead and the headlight smashed/broken.

So now I'm a murderer with a bill to pay for a new headlight!!

Back to the Superb. I expressed my disappointment in Skoda's ability to resolve my issues and the entire matter is now with Skoda UK (so the dealer says). They say the car needs a part that is on back order from Europe. If the car isn't fully repaired by this Friday, I'm told the little Fabia will be replaced with either a Superb, Kodiaq or Octavia...

When they finally fit your shiny new button, make sure you don't push it so damn hard and break it! :giggle:

Took the 'borrowed' Fabia in today to get the headlight replaced. Wasn't charged for the labour so the bill came to £140.

Was told the Superb should be back with me tomorrow as they'd fixed it but it was still to be re-coded. Let's hope it's true as scraping ice off the windscreen in the mornings and cold seats is becoming a bind!!

The car was finally return to me fully working yesterday. Was advised the fault was down to a loose wire within a multi-plug connector...

Glad it was sorted out so easily and quickly...
