Hi!

Featured Replies

My son has just bought a new vRS 245 DSG, in Corrida Red with the space saver tyre. Needed something quick, so couldn't wait for a factory build. Picks it up next Thursday/Friday so all in all pretty quick given Christmas. Got a great end of year deal so looking forward to it. Mind you got Bridgestone tyres fitted....

Coming from a Seat Leon FR 1.4 TSI will certainly notice the difference in power! Did look at a Cupra, but couldn't get any really great deals and he actually seemed to prefer the Octavia!

Might want to get some coding done - high beam assist and maybe one or two others, so wondered if there was anyone close to SO32 postcode who might be willing to do some for some beer money?

Thanks.

The Bridgestone tyres are similar in theory to a young person having a telematics Black Box fitted, Both will limit your enthusiasm to accelerate hard.Good luck with the new wheels and coding work.:giggle:

I came from a Leon FR 1.4tsi too! I had to get rid of mine because it was god awful. Things Ive noticed since moving to skoda are I dont need to take my car to the dealer at keast once a month for a repair, the dealer actual cares, IRS is much better than torsion beam and head units arent meant to crash 3 times a week. Hopefully your son will have a similar positive experience, my leon was ditched after 18 months, on monday im tading in my 3 year old VRS for a brand new VRS.

Welcome to Skoda!!!

Even asking my Octavia to deal with an extra 94bhp and 147NM of torque has resulted in no rattles, 100% reliability and first dealer visit since collecting it on 17th August 2017 next month to have the oil changed at 18,600 miles. I can't explain how impressed I have been with this car considering the abuse I have given it LOL!

Thats an awesome endorsement. My leon couldnt deal with cold weather, the headlights couldnt self level in the cokd leaving me with one pointing forward and one pointing at the ground. The door cards must have been full of marbles because they were in every other month to be sorted for rattles, the dealer started using silicone sealant to put them back on in the end. My sat nav would default to wolfsburg ring road pretty much every time I used it, which is lucky because you only use sat nav when youre going somewhere you dont know lol. Skoda on the other hand have been amazing. I went to see my new car on thursday, got an email from the skoda boss there on friday thanking me for coming through to see it and sharing their excitement. They are pulling off at A pillar trim for me on monday to fit ky cable for my dash cam. The SEAT dealer down the road would answer the phone with 'they all do that sir'.

I understand your journey because I had many Ibiza GTi's and a Leon Cupra between 1997-2004 (after 2 BMW E36 Coupe's) before defecting to VAG stablemate SKODA for the extra practicality and reliability I have experienced over the last 14 years having owned Fabia's, Spaceback, various Superbs and Octavia's and wife loves her SEL Karoq.

Ive had a 1.4 Ibiza S, a 2.0 cupra 16v, an arosa 1.0, a leon 1.2tsi Copa and a 1.4tsi FR leon. The last one was the last straw. Ive had volvo, BMW, vauxhall, nissan, Peugeot, honda, suzuki and aprilia also lol. Will be joining the 245 club in a little over 24 hours lol

Don't worry not the jealous type. I like seeing people driving rare cars such as Lambo's and Ferrari's. Small typo on Captain Kirk's album meant to type "SHATNER'S CLAUS" before someone picks me up on it.

Thanks Tony my NEW YEAR wish is that you manage to get over that difficult 300bhp barrier. Perhaps you need to invest in JB4 upgrades.:giggle:

Honestly, you two!!

Ha ha well we all know what he's like...

On behalf of the Seat, I have to say that Pre-facelift Mk3 interiors are much different from the Facelift ones - they changed the materials from the hard touch plastics to the exact same soft touch you find in Octavia.

In Cupra trim, they are even better, but don't just take my word for it - go check one in the flesh and give it an unbiased look.

Same goes for the entertainment system - it is the exact same MIB2 unit as on the Octavia, so it won't have many more or less bugs.

I think that if you compare a poverty spec Leon to a vRS Octavia you will of course find differences.

Also, if you would compare a Facelift Mk3 Leon Cupra to a previous generation Octavia 1.0 you would walk away saying that the Octavia is crap.

Peers to peers, apples to apples, but not potatoes to lemons ;)

...cue in the triggered ones ;) but seriously, even if secretly, go see one in the flesh and draw own conclusions.

I have literally had my Cupra side by side in my garage with another member here and it went down to even bringing out the measuring tape during the comparison.

Hurt you or not, they are not that different - Octavia is slightly bigger, interior layout is different, but materials are mostly the same.

@Jaco2k Im allowed to hate my old car, it was an absolute dog. My dad has the most recent FR and I'd take my Octavia over that any day. If the dealer wasnt a complete ass clown I would probably be driving a cupra now but I prefer the less hassle option of having a dealer that cares a bit. Where we live the SEAT dealer was the only franchised car place in town, couple that with a large well paying employer right next door and its SEATs everywhere!

Of course you are allowed to hate the car - that's not my point :)

...I checked one of the older ones and I also had the impression the interior was inferior to the Octavia.

As to dealership, I agree with you - I had 3 different ones plus a couple of specialized ones in town for the Skoda but I have one (!!!) for the Seat, who are also a VW dealer.

...have a guess where their priorities are? Also, they know there is no competition, so I had one guy literally tell me once "...well, where are you gonna take it then?"

That was exactly my problem, the next dealer for SEAT is over an hour away and I couldn't spend my time going there and back once a month! Negotiation on a new car consisted of them writing the price on a post it note and telling you to give them a call if you still wanted it.

My Skoda dealer is 15 minutes away, the SEAT lot moved out of town and are now on the way to the Skoda place. I'm never going back there no matter how good SEATs and Cupras get!

It's not always about the product we all want to deal with people who care about the product they sell and give us what we expect which is GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE or we simply chose another dealer/garage who does care about our business. This is why I have been a loyal and satisfied customer of my local Skoda dealer 20 minutes drive and 10 miles from me.:inlove: Should add been buying from them for 14 years.

Hey mate, hope your son loves the new car! If you want some coding done let me know, I’m across in Wiltshire but I come to Southampton fairly regularly.

  • 2 weeks later...

He might still have to reboot the Infotainment system......maybe not a frequently but I’m doing it about 1/week

Does the car not have High Beam Assist as standard then?
