17 Alloy rims ET for Vrs

Featured Replies

After a little digging in the advert (I don't speak Czeck either), Gigaro - 7x17 ET41, 5x100 . Standard is 6.5 or 7x17 ET42, so no problem.

How about getting a set of Prague Springs to go with them? :)

I've just forgotten that in 235/40/18 on my Passat and 205/40/17 on these rims, 40s are not the same :crying: Just a thought of coming near a pothole makes me cringe :D They are very nice though and would be spot on on my black Vrs. On the downside, they are not so lightweight either; according to a post on Briskoda here, they are 10.49kg each (without tyres)

You asked if the rims would fit, you didn't mention the tractor tyres fitted  to the rims.

Buy the correct tyres or stop trying to modify everything on the car all at once on the cheap.

I think you misunderstood sepulchrave.  I was wrongly  expecting the same sidewall height as I have on my Passat until I thought about it, because both are 40... Of course I didnt think of buying 17 wheels and mounting 235/40/18 tyres on them .... I am afraid that the 205 40 17 wouldnt be able to survive a moderate pothole...

Er, the "40" is the same; it's the percentage of the tread width that the tyre wall height is. Of course, both the tread width and the wheel fitment are different...

Not sure I like your chances of getting a 235 onto a Furbie (or even an Octy) without body work first.

Hence the "40" is not the same on 235 and 205, but I kind of overlooked that, not that I didnt know... I will reconsider. 215/40 might help a bit comfort-wise....

Fitting 17's is a shocking idea if you'll be driving on bad roads, I live in the countryside in the UK and even 16's were too brutal, now I have 15's and they're the perfect compromise, the Fabia is a small car and doesn't need huge wheels shod with rubber bands to handle well and look good.

It's all about form over function these days.

Maybe for mindless technical 'dyslexics', however there is a reason rally cars don't use massive rims with rubber bands on them.
