Hello people,

Topped up as it was below the minimum mark, everything put back

turned ignition on, started engine etc light goes out immediately, steering nice and light no gurgling sounds at all

hopefully it’s fixed

cannot believe that small amount of fluid has made a difference !!

  • You need to unclip the square battery box from the bottom tray to access the other nuts/bolts. I have the same model Fabia and I took a pic of the battery tray bolts last time I had it out...

Hello again,

just given the car a run, steering perfect, no light coming up on dash.

got home put car I garage, went back and restarted, had door open , interior light on, could hear pump as though it had interrupted supply, also interior light flickering

any suggestions greatly welcome

Sensor malfunction, the pump should not be running without steering movement.

Agreed - Suspect there will be a fault logged along the lines of "steering angle sensor - implausible value".

Many thanks guys,

forget to mention cooling fan had kicked in , have only ever had this after a very long run or being stuck in traffic for a while

seems a trip to reputable dealer is needed now

Hello ,

been to garage, they found nothing on fault codes, checked oil level, all ok

tested alternator, charging ok

i have a dead cell on battery, they reckon this is the problem,

After a day of standing, the battery voltage is 12.3

i did fully charge on Sunday before I went to garage on monday

I ask is their diagnosis accurate ?

No. If there was a dead cell it would be much lower than 12.3V. How old is the battery?

You need to see how badly the voltage sags under load, measure the voltage with everything switched on but not running and watch the meter drop.

I believe they checked the cranking voltage etc

the battery is 15 months old

Hello again,

turned headlights on, dipped, heater fan running position 1,

getting 11.90 volts

I know you've had it checked in a garage but you can never trust them. Does the battery light come on when you turn the ignition on (engine not running).

Ok, can you manage a bit more load please, like main beam, heated windows and mirrors on, fan flat out, stereo on, the PAS pulls 60A so you need absolutely everything running.

You're trying to test it not tickle it!

Battery light operation is correct.

Ignition off, and every kitten thing else on, including use headlamp flash if you have H4 bulbs.

No dead cell in that battery unless you didn't test it for very long, it would drop pretty quickly if it were faulty.

Which leaves the angle sensor fault I originally mentioned.

Thanks for reply

shall I test for longer

i have noticed after charging the battery I only ever get 12.6 volts and charger only ever shows 99% never 100

i am mystified

Your best bet is to buy a suitable cable (£20 tops, cheaper ones exist), then download VCDS lite so you can do your own fault diagnostics. Bet there are codes if you interrogate the PAS module directly.
