Alarm keeps going off

Featured Replies

Any ideas why my wifes 63reg Fabia has times where the alarm goes off for no reason, stops after a period, resets and goes off again. Lock and unlock the car and it often stops.

It was doing it the other morning, no wind, nothing disturbing the car. I went to it opened the boot and drivers door, closed and reset alarm and fine, but has done it since several times.

Car is on a drive and not disturbed by passing vehicles. It may be caused by low temperatures as only seems to happen early in the morning?

Worth having a look at the wiring loom in the drivers door behind the gaitor, (located by the door hinge) you can prise this away from the car body side - not the door side, and look at the wires, sometimes these crimp and fray exposing the copper and causing all sorts of issues with the alarm going off, doors locking randomly etc.

Replaced one of these myself about a year ago - the whole loom and it was about £110 just for the loom.

Alarm battery on its last legs.

Thanks.

Thinking about this the car has not been used much recently, does the alarm go off as the battery in the alarm approaches flat, or is it topped up all the time by the car battery? I suppose the car battery may bo on its way out in a 5 year old car?

As the car has only a low value now, and rarely anything of value left in it, can the alarm be disabled by say disconnecting a wire, or a fuse?

Iirc there is a thread  somewhere showing a skoda alarm unit stripped down. It showed a small multicell nimh battery soldered to the board. When these batteries are discharged too long, they corrode with the stuff oozing out of them. It doesnt help that the alarm is somewhere in a wheel arch afaik.

So lack of car use may be a factor in short alarm life.

The poster did solder in a new (slightly different) battery and effectively refurbish it iirc.

Would that be the first link in the 3rd post?
