Can cloth seats be ok without electric heating?

Featured Replies

I looked up a random 2011 Škoda Superb with Alcantara seats, just to get the idea:

It might look ok to the owner and his family members who are very used to the car, but from the outsider's perspective is has such an oily feeling to it.

It might depend on how well a particular car was taken care of, but I would certainly not like to buy it used.

He's got carried away with the cleaning materials. It looks like he's back-to-blacked the whole seat.

On the other hand, 2008 Škoda Superb with beige leather looks almost like new 10 years later:

Very impressed.

I have finally found a video of 2019 Škoda Karoq with microfiber seats:

This upholstery seems to provide the advantages of Alcantara (resistance to liquids and extreme temperatures combined with premium looks), without its disadvantages (quicker wear and tear, and the need to look after).

It is not microfiber / Alcantera. It is leather and fabric (the fabric and its pattern is in many other Skoda models).

Btw, we have leather all the way and love it.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how it's called, because it's neither simple cloth, nor Alcantara. Just fabric then, but with some possible advantages of microfiber.

Are there any practical reasons to prefer full leather seats over this kind of fabric, apart from the more premium looks?

When you have great grandchildren with you you'll appreciate the ease with which you can wipe sticky finger marks and other things from it, have had it in the last three cars and wouldn't be without it, seats heat up nice and quick too!

Despite being a fan of fabric heated seats the mix of part leather and fabric in SEL spec didn't do it for me, the fabric feels strange to my touch and (just my opinion) it didn't feel very strong, so for a nominal £250 we went with full leather. We might live to regret it but so be it, each to their own I suppose.

I'll add that the fabric style seats used in the SE spec would be OK with me, not unlike the ones I have in my Golf, simple velour type cloth.....and heated.

Thanks. This is what I wanted to know and couldn't check it myself.

Same reason I went for the leather too, also feels and looks more premium, plus having great grandchildren in the car too.

It was EXACTLY for the same reason, we went with full leather. The fabric in the video felt strange, “artificial”, too slippery. We wanted some leather  - didn’t have to be all leather - but since we didn’t like the fabric/leather option and were very unsure about the micro suede/leather, we ended up with all leather. But of course, it is always a matter of personal preferences and taste, so what is good for us, might not suit everyone.
