low battery voltage

Featured Replies

Has any one had flash up on the infotainment: Low battery voltage or words to that effect?

Got to admit I've never seen it before!

Any one got any clues at all?

Check voltage over the battery terminals with the engine running, looking for about 14.4v.

If you've been running a lot of short journeys with a lot of electrics (heated screen, blower, etc), then it's probably not given the battery a chance to recharge.

Check your battery voltage when the engine is both off (12.7v+) and running (as above 14.4v)

If your off voltage is less, give your car a good run out. You don't have to rag the car, just ensure you get up to temperature and go on roads which will require a change in speed every so often. IIRC our cars' charging system does a lot of it's charging when you slow down. If not, a good jaunt up and down a few junction of a motorway / A road should suffice.

Try and use the least electric bits as possible when you do go out.

Check the battery when you get back and again a few hours later. If the initial voltage is OK, but after a few hours it's gone down noticeable, you've either something plugged into the car which is drawing a lot of juice, or it's confirming the battery is at fault.

If your running voltage is less, you potentially may have an issue with the alternator. It could still indicate an issue with the battery, but you'd need a garage to confirm that one.

Hi I just had my battery replaced. 2017 Octavia VRS. Car was slow to fire for a few months. Kept throwing on a warning light for brake assist also. Took it to the dealers after it came to a head this weekend. Had to call skoda assist out twice and jump start the car a further 2 times. Apparently there is a batch of faulty batteries that have been causing problems. Mine was one of them. They start causing trouble after 12-18 months.

Cheers for the reply’s guys.

Mom doing a lot of high mileage runs. At least the battery gets a decent charge going through it!

We seem to be seeing a few bad batteries of late, both have been on Superbs which are around 18 months old. I'm guessing this is true?!

Mine gave up 2 weeks ago but it's 3 years old.

Same issues of slow to start and couldn't have radio on for long without the engine on.
