Control Arm rear bush nightmare

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm trying to change rear bush (big one)

It is just nightmare, very difficult to get installed...

First, how do you get bush all the way in? And second, how you get arm all the way through bush?

Situation now: lip of bush is ~5mm from arm and arm isn't enough penetrated because it's 1-2cm away from it's place where it bolts.

Any tips?

Yes, easy peasey, I assume you're trying to install standard type bushes without the special tool which is almost impossible to do, hence your difficulty.

What is tightening torques for bolts? specially the front facing m12 bolt.

I think they're stretch bolts and are supposed to be replaced and angle torqued.

I re-used my old ones and they went FT, a dab of copaslip is a good idea since they're threaded into the alloy console.

if you want polybushes i can recommend PSBs. They are reasonably easy to fit and have lasted well on my car so far. They give much nicer steering feel as the wishbone is in effect properly connected to the subframe as opposed to going through a piece of squishy rubber.

The big front pivot bolt is 70 Nm then angle tighten 90 degrees.

I made my own tool for installing the bushes...

I made that too but it broke bush.

Bough new one and cleaned arm hole. Still no luck. I'm going for urethanes.

Most people use a ratchet strap when they are doing it on the car. A bit of washing up liquid on the hexagon spigot works wonders too.

Well they will be much easier.
