Central console air vent

Featured Replies

Hello, in my 67 L&K, there's two air vents, one in the glove compartment and one under the arm rest in the centre console.

The glove compartment one gives a strong flow of cold air. The arm rest one produces a really weak flow of hot air.

Is it supposed to perform like the glove compartment one?

I've turned the dial to the maximum setting.

Thanks

Yes, it should be cold. We store a bottle of water in ours and it stays really cold.

Thank you. The manual says:

"The temperature of the storage compartment supplied with air is dependent on the setting in the air conditioning."

Have you found that to be the case?

from memory, the air supply to the glove & central storage compartments are controlled by the left hand (passenger) side heating controls. As is the rear heating- assuming you only have the normal 2-zone control

Hi, got the third rear zone as well. But for me, the glove vent is strong and cold while central vent is weak and warm.

Interesting @ChaybobbTidbit. I checked mine today and it's the same as yours (strong cold air in the glove box, weak warm air in the centre console cubby). Not saying it is supposed to be that way (I'm pretty sure it isn't), but mine seems to have the same "feature". How are your front air vents set up (the ones on the dash itself). SWMBO has a habit of turning hers off (passenger side) - I have no idea if this has any bearing on it as I didn't have chance to experiment with it today. Will try changing settings over the coming days and let you know if it makes any difference.

Thank you. The car is back with the dealer this week as they're looking at the suspension. And they didn't really have a clue about this vent, they didn't know it existed or how it's supposed to perform. The manual isn't particularly helpful. The mechanic played around with it as I was there and observed that it's not working at all the same as the glove box. They called to say that Skoda only offer the whole console as a part and they're not sure that would fix it. So having some further feedback from you would be helpful, thanks.

P.S. the base model 68 Passat they gave me as a loan is awful

Had a play with the aircon yesterday while monitoring the air going into the centre cubby. I normally run the aircon on auto, so changed it to enable top front vents etc. In short there was nothing I could do to make it blow cold air into the cubby. I did get it to blow a slightly stronger stream of warm air though! In my non-scientific test it seemed the air going into the centre cubby was the same temperature as the rest of the aircon, while the glove compartment is chilled. Can't give you a reason why sorry, and I'd be interested if anyone has any ideas.

Hi, just got it back from the dealer, they want to replace the whole central console. But I played a bit more with it. If you set the rear zone to Low and close the rear air vent and increase the general air flow a bit, then it comes through with a decent cold flow in the central console. Can you try that?

@facet edge do you have it set in a particular way? Do you have 2 zones or 3?

Thanks

I've got my climate set to 21 degrees and have 2 zones.

Next time I go out I'll stick a thermometer in the box and see what temperature I get.

In the manual I note the difference in language between how they describe the glove box ventilation (page 94):

Opening the air supply when the air conditioning system is switched on allows cooled air to flow into the storage compartment.

Opening the air inlet when the air conditioning system is on causes fresh or interior air to flow into the storage compartment.

Central console (page 93):

When the air inlet is opened, and the air-conditioning system is switched on the air flows in the storage compartment corresponding to the control dial settings on the air conditioning, depending on the outer climate conditions.
Opening the air inlet when the air conditioning system is on causes fresh or interior air to flow into the storage compartment.

So maybe it's working as intended?
