Servicing - How much engine oil 2.0 Diesel

Featured Replies

How much engine oil should I need to re-fill the engine after changing the oil.  It's in my 2.0 Diesel Scout.

Its the 2nd time I've done an oil change and both times it's taken the same amount to get to the top of the dipstick .....

Thanks

Sorry you've done twice & it took the same amount both times.

I think you already know how much oil it takes

So what are you really asking ?

Don't worry, it's not an issue as both times it needed changing :D

Additionally it took ever so slightly more oil to get it to the correct level today than it did last time so my earlier statement was technically incorrect.

What I wanted to know is how much engine oil is required to re-fill a 2016 2.0 Diesel (Scout) - I thought it was 4.5 litres

thanks

Did my Vrs yesterday and have just under 0.5L left in the can. Think I've read on here it's about 4.6L a change. Was under the impression that if I reset the service indicator manually (via odometer reset) it would put the car on to a 'fixed' regime (like it did in my mk2) which I wasn't bothered about as I'll always do an annual service/oil change but it reset it back to 700+ days and 18000+ miles. Used Mobil 1 'ESP' 5w30 and Bosch filter P7157.

Interesting ..... I did mine and it took all 5 litres of Quantum and actually isn't at the top of the dipstick as I thought, it could do with a tiny bit more.  I got a good deal on the Quantum Oil at TPS (£15.99) so will pick some more up today as I'm passing the shop.  My only thought was that the refill value maybe didn't take into account the capacity that sits in the filter that probably is about 0.5 litre.  So if it is 4.6 to fill that will explain why I'm not quite at the top of the dipstick.

Now my car never used oil when I first brought it but after I serviced last time with Mobil 1 ESP and genuine filter it then started to use a bit of oil - not much but more than it had been.  That's why this time I've swapped to Quantum (out of curiosity).

Daft question ( it sounds like you're a seasoned DIY'er) but you have got the car on level ground when taking the reading. I have seen pictures of people servicing their car with it still up on ramps when refilling with oil. Mine is just below the 'max' and that's after a top up after running it for a couple of minutes to check for leaks and for the oil to get back into the filter housing. As long as it's between the 'min and 'max' on the dipstick I wouldn't be putting any more oil in it,if you've already put 5.0L in. Unless there are different capacities between the 'normal' octavia and the scout. Only ever put Mobil 1 'ESP' in my mk2 when doing oil changes so going to stick with the 'devil I know' with the mk3.

When you change the oil on this  Diesel engine you put in the specified amount of oil thats it. I believe this engine is 4.6l so you measure out 4.6l and put it in the engine. Then drive the car and get the oil to operating temperature 95c ish. Park up and wait 5 minutes, dip the oil and the level will be spot on.

If you have done as i suspect the old fashioned way by topping up cold till max on the stick and its taken 5l you will have too much oil in the engine and risk damaging the dpf.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just had my car serviced and MOT'd by Skoda Yesterday and it states 4.7 ltrs of oil on the worksheet

Yes I did it in the garage (having removed the jack) and that's flat and level and re checked it in the garage.

The engine was still warm when I dropped the oil.  I filled till halfway up the dipstick, ran for about 1min to circulate the oil, turned off, topped up till halfway up dipstick again, ran for a few mins and then filled till it was at the top of the stick - pretty much the same way I've always done it.
