Sun visor monitors

Featured Replies

Does anyone have experience if fitting or using a sun visor mounted monitor to an Octavia for use with a reversing camera?

Hopefully someone will come along with some experience there but I thought I’d ask whether you had ruled out retrofitting the usual reversing camera hooked up to the head unit? They are quite cheap and it seems like a better end result.

Excuse my ignorance, but could you explain "head unit".

I have looked at linking a number plate mounted reversing camera to a mirror monitor, but feel the monitor is too large.

I don't want a dash mounted monitor which is in constant view. I am considering a flip up dash mounted monitor but have concerns about the closed unit reflecting in the windscreen.

I explored linking a camera to the existing infotainment screen, but was told this was prohibitively expensive.

Where are you based?

There are plenty of people out there that will retrofit the genuine reversing camera for around £350...

I am based in Durham.

My local supplier/installer of cameras and monitors have apparently explored this option.

They experienced lots of obstruction for Skoda and suggested that the cost of this would be in the region of £700

if you have the correct headunit in the glove box its a simple £40 in pats and about 2 hours of your time fitting it.

The unit in the glovebox looks like a blanked off CD player with an SD card slot.

Is this what is meant by a "headunit"?

yes thats the brains of your infotainment just one or two slots? is there a cd slot? if not can you pull the unit and tell us the model number?

The unit has only 1 SD card slot and does not have a CD slot.

The car is a Octavia 1.0 S hatchback, 68 reg with a Bolero infotainment unit.

We are actually on our way to the airport at the moment for a warm break in Spain.

I will check the headunit model number when I get back.

You won't be able to check the headunit model number unless you've got the radio removal tools. Best thing to do when you get back is take a picture of your radio and the inside of your glove box and post them on this thread. People will be able to advise from there.
