Which Fabia?!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

I've recently decieded to sell my 2000 1.4 8v Fabia after owning it for 3 years with numerous problems (ECU failure, power stearing failure, rear wash problems, over-stretched boot release cable, several coolant leaks, water ingress into passenger foot well, shattered rear window, 3 new anti-roll bars...the list goes on!!!). I understand the majority of these problems are common to early 1.4 8v cars.

Although i've enjoyed driving this car, i'm really disappointed with its realiability. That said i'm keen for another Skoda as I know, in general, they are said to be very reliable cars.

Im not wanting to make the same mistake again! Can anyone point me out which models to avoid? and which are worth looking into? I'd love to get my hands on a vRS but its abit out of my price range. :(

Cheers!

Ben

hmmmmmmmmm like to get my hands on a vrS too

There is the odd vRS up for sale on this forum from time to time.

if ur not out for performance the 1.2 12v is fantastic little car expecially if you get it with bags of kit in comfort/ambiante guiss

or if you want a bit more power why not try the PD100?

On the subject of which model, I saw a Fabia Sport yesterday. It looked brilliant with it's tinted windows and the price is fantastic as well. :)

Fabia Sport is a good buy and everyone on here seems to rave about the engine. If you want something newish and thats the right price range it could be the one for you.

Either a 1.2 or a PD100 are the best bets I think.

vRS's are even appearing on autotrader now for 8k or less if lucky with 30k on the clock.

fabia tdi (pd100) is also a good bet, make sure you get the elegance spec though.

or you could even try the 1.4 tdi (75ps) which is very good and economic.

and last but by no means least the 1.2 htp 12v, it's a great entry level performer and the 1.2 htp 12v sport as mentioned looks the part aswell.

expect to pay between 6-8k for any of the models listed above with the vRS having more miles on the clock and older and the 1.2htp having fewer miles and newer.

My 1.4TDI 53plate is just nudging 80,000 miles and has been pretty good, bar occasionally going into emergency mode for no apparent reason and the power steering packing up a couple of times (Turn on and off again sorts it) It's regulary returns 55mpg and I was cruising at an indicated 115mph on the Autobahn recently. Also the noise it makes is fantastic.

Cheers Guys.

I was thinking about the Sport and wondered if anyone had good experiences with it. Although i'm very tempted to push the boat out and save for a vRS, there just doesn't seem to be that many used ones available and those that are around are quite pricey. The only 'cheaper' ones that i've seen have a shed loads of miles on them....must be good cars!!

I rate the 1.2 Sport, great little package with a really good spec list.

I would go for either the 1.4TDi PD or the 1.9TDi PD both are good performers, cheap to run and can be re-mapped when finances allow to decent power outputs. As an alternative an analogue box will enhance either car much more cheaply than a re-map and the result will be equally pleasing for the budget conscious.

very true

if you miss the crap about a remap giving 204 bhp for £200 then this is a good price for a vRS (has been involved in a light rear end accident but not recorded on v-car and professionally repaired so it'll be fine - would get the RAC to give it a once over though just to make sure):

04 reg - 20k - You might get it for £8,000.

i love my 1.9 TDi Estate though it is in comfort trim but still.... getting alloys fitted to it soon.... woohoo
