Poor mpg

Featured Replies

Hi guys, need some help,

My MK1 Fabia vrs is recently returning poor mpg, averaging around 25mpg and getting around 250milrs to a full tank.

I've had the car over 2 years, always managed to get over 48mpg even with mixed driving!

I have no lights on the dash, Ive taken the car to a local garage to be plugged in and no fault codes have come up. The car still drives spot on, any ideas?

first I would check there is no diesel leak including into the engine oil,   milage/service history?  and next egr valve and manifold clean?

No sign of diesel leak, cars done 145k miles with FSH. Egr valve was recently cleaned.

Ive been told that the actuator may need to be set up right? I bought a reconditioned turbo a few months ago and just got a mechanic to fit it, is anyone local to DN211 who can set it up please?

If you're in DN21 I assume you're in Gainsborough?

I can definitely recommend GT Autoworkers, they are across the road from Tesco.

Another place that would definitely be worth a try would be VAG Autocare in Hykeham. Gaz there really does know his onions when it comes to VAG cars.

Another recommendation for Gaz at VAG Autocare, looked after my VAG cars over the years.

If you have VCDS or know someone who does I would look at coolant temperature sensor values and make sure they are sensible for the engine hot or cold. Perhaps the recommended Gaz at VAG autocare could do it for you?

Why was the turbo changed?

My old turbo blew up haha.

I went to see Gaz today at VAG autocare, he plugged it in and a fault code came up saying something on the lines of "ECU to cluster intermittent" Gaz thinks the car is running fine and the readings are wrong because of Signal or something. So I'm gonna a fill the car up and see how many miles I actually do to a tank :) thanks for everyone's input.

@Sean89 - Easy way to do that is fill the tank til the pump clicks off, zero the trip meter, drive the car, then the next time you fill up trip distance / new fill volume is miles per litre.

Hand brake dragging maybe......stick a wet finger on the  reardisks after you have driven her for a mile .  My driverside calaiper lever was sticking due to lack of use and a steep driveway. Good luck

Hand brake is fine, and brand new rear discs and pads cause they needed changing!

I can confidently say it's the cluster reading wrong, not used a whole tank yet and I've done over 400miles.

My work commute is 20miles each way but my trip computer is saying 6-7miles each way, any ideas why this is suddenly reading everything wrong?

@Sean89 - No idea off-hand. How do the main odometer and trip mileage compare with your expected distance to and from work?
