Tyre ware

Featured Replies

That's usually a good idea; you get an uncomfortable ride, poor grip and high noise levels if you don't have tyres! ;)

Swap them round at about 10-12K. My last ones lasted nearly 30K by doing this.

My front two I changed at 28,000 miles with the rears about half worn.

They do get rotated twice a year as well.

I'm confused. What is your question, I see a blank space?  :thinking:

Tupperware or Tyre wear.

Tyre 'ware'.......maybe it's someone trying to sell tyres?

Trying to sell on this site without going Green and Mods deleted the post perhaps, however they would delete the whole thread not just post if he did.

However I'd imagine this thread is about Tyre Wear, not tyre ware. Is it about the life of tyres (wearing quickly/slowly), uneven wear, strange wear pattens, who knows?

Hi RickW my cars tyres having an arrow showing front facing rotation I presume you can only swop back to front as opposed to opposite corners as the arrow rotation would be facing the wrong way. Joe

If you read the OP's postings you will see that the subject is Bridgestone Tyres and cracking.

You can swap these tyres from side to side BUT you need to have the tyres removed from the wheels and refitted the other way round.

If you don't buy directional tyres then you won't have this problem.They might have come with the car.

Sorry about the blank post yesterday,one of those days.

The intended post was about tyre wear after only doing 8400 miles over three years from brand new.The car was due its first MOT and everything fine except an advisory for cracking and perishing on all four tyres.

I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem with Bridgestone tyres.

Our Roomster still has one of the original Bridgestone T001s on the back, and that is from summer 2012.   No sign of cracking.

How old are the tyres, there is a 4 digit code on the sidewall that will be something like 2315 which is week 23 (June) 2015

Cracks might be due to exposure to sun, or running at wrong pressures

As above +

If the tyres is continually bent it can eventually crack.

To low tyre pressure or too much rough ground driving.

Sunlight / ultraviolet light is another cause.

Washing your tyres with bad cleaning fluid can also speed up the cracking process.

My personal findings with a 90PS 1.2 TSi engine and factory ftted 16” wheels, with 215/45 R16 tyres;

Front;

-Stock Bridgestone were pretty grippy in all conditions, fronts lasted ~20K miles, it became aparent that they would have lasted longer however my tracking was out, which caused uneven wear.

-Falken (dont know model) lasted just to 28K though the last 5K i was doing a lot of driving for my job around rough hilly roads, passenger side was worn quite a bit more due to road surface, could probably have made it to 30K miles.

-Davanti DX390’s had only for 2K ish, much quieter than both bridgestone and falken, but dont feel as grippy in any non-dry conditions. Time will tell i guess, they are primarily summer tyres.

For rears;

-Stock bridgestone lasted all the way up to 50K, with still 4.5mm tread left. Only reason i had them changed was i hit a pothole and had a rear tyre blow out (still fighting with barnsley council about this). And after inspecting the rubber closer it was showing definite signs of aging.

-Now running Avon ZV7’s and they are much quieter and seem just as grippy if not better than the bridgestones.

Yes, after 3 years my original bridgstones on the rear (with 50k miles and still 4.5mm left) were showing signs of aging and unfortunately for me, i ended up having a blowout, despite the front wheel taking most of the force of the pothole. Mine were not given an advisory at MOT, perhaps they should have been! I was lucky to avoid a probably fatal accident (doing 60 on a 60mph road) as there was a car coming the other way!
