Roomster Steel Wheels

Featured Replies

Hello Gang :- I am due to collect an 08 plate 1.4 TDi Roomster very soon...I do take my car to some quite remote rural locations for mountain biking. I want to fit a set of steel wheels, to replace & preserve the Alloys. What steels do I need ? If anyone has the correct wheels, may be interested in a deal on a wheel swap ?

The OEM alloy size will be cast into the wheels.

Roomster came with different sizes of wheels, not sure what size you have on 11 year old version, you could probably pick up spare alloys off a scrap car if you want to preserve yours

175 70 R14 fits rim 5J 14 ET35 with bolt pattern 5 x 100

Hi John....Thankyou very much for that, very informative. Not picked up the car yet, I will be able to ascertain more accurately then what I actually have. It’s not about preserving mine, it’s about fitting a set of utilitarian steels so I don’t have to be so precious about where I take the car

Think I've got a set of 14's off a Fabia, out at Sutton on Sea though. Leave it with me and I'll see what's in the shed.

If you are going some properly grubby places, stick some mud and snow rated winter tyres on them. I run them on my little van year round, and I've never managed to get it stuck yet.

Hi Steve....Thankyou for that, i’m Often over at Sutton, that would be great ! I “think” I have 15” on the Roomster..but not 100% as I don’t have the car just yet

The alloy wheels will do just fine up hill and Dale and to the mountains or hill tracks. It is the bikes that go off road not the cars.    Maybe some M & S tyres for outer Mongolia are a Simply clever idea, but most seem to get on OK with whatever

I just don’t like looking after alloys !!

Not sure what this statement means, they are maintenance free.

Of course they will become dirty (but so will steel), and will get pitted and not shiny (but won’t get rusty streaks).

We have recently put all weather tyres on our Roomster (Bridgestone weather control A005), they are quite fat at the side so would struggle to damage the rims on kerbs if that is your worry.   If it was me I would be getting good M+S tyres (might only have mixture of  budget tyres anyway) especially if you like to drive up muddy tracks to park.

Dont forget there is a whole section of the forum on wheels and tyres (scroll down on home page beyond the model types)

I'd run alloy over steel anytime. Rather fetch something cheap, because you simply do not want steels to merge into the rear brakes...with mud and water, that is plausible.

Then try to run 185/60s for a bit narrover thread without being too wobbly.

I have a set of 16" steels shod with 205/45/16 winter tyres if you're interested?

PM if you are
