Climatronic fan control

I go to turn on the heater by upping the temp and I get the fan come on full blast - WHY??????????????????????????????????????????  Also, why does it need to change the fan speed when I change the temp - arrrrrhhhhhhh

Because it bases its activity on what you last set it to.

You said yourself, you drove home in warm temperatures and switched the engine off with cold air blasting out.... so when you next turn the key, on a cold and frosty morning, GUESS WHAT IT WILL BE SET TO?

You're missing the point though, I don't want it in auto! :(

OK, come round my house. I will show you how to work the fecking thing, alright?

I might slap you with the instruction manual a few times, but I promise that will help....!

lol I'm perfectly happy to bring my instruction manual and fight to the death on this one :P

I understand it bases itself on the last activity. My point is it DOES NOT let you manually control the settings when not on auto. It was suggested I leave it on the lowest fan setting but that means if I drive home with it set on cold, the next morning it blows out cold air - which is noticeable and stupid!

Don't worry, I've accepted the system doesn't have a completely manual operation so I've given up on it too lol

What do you want to fight to the death with?

I have pistols, rifles, shotguns, 60mm mortars, swords, staves, spears, billhooks, knives, bare fists, a wide variety of mechnical, powered and woodworking tools, and I could probably borrow some harvesting vehicles from the farmer out the back...

OH MY GOD....... I must be Derren Brown or something, because I am perfectly capable of doing just this. Indeed, so are you, since it reverts to last activity.

Yes, but the stupidity is not with the unit...

When you park up at home, set the fecking thing to hot, give it a few seconds to move the internal bits around... and only then switch off the engine.

When you next switch on, it will be set to hot.... but, like almost every other car, will still blow cold air until the engine has warmed up.

You definitely win that fight! lol

So Derren, the last activity is OFF. I turn the fan on by pressing the fan button once - it goes to near or full speed - how is that manual????

So each time I park up for the night, I need to look at the forecast for the next morning so I can preset it?? lol Come on, how is that a sensible system :P

There's your problem! The Climatronic goes off when you turn the key to position 0, and restores previous setting when you turn it to 2.

No, just be aware that whatever you last set it to is what it will be set to when you next switch it on... which is exactly what you'd get even if you had the old school slidey switches from the 1970s, incidentally.

If you cannot cope with this, perhaps sell the car and order a taxi instead. That will be warm the very instant you get inside it!

But both points confirm what I said - it is NOT a manual system.

1. I cannot turn it completely off as when I press it on, it decides what speed I should have.

2. If I leave it on, then I have to set the temp I will need in the morning and it will blow cold air until it's warmed up to what ever temp I have is set to.

Sorry but am I seriously missing something cos that is a semi automatic system!!

Yeah but with old controls at least you could turn things off and not have the fan go into one when you turn it back on :P

I can cope with it but am seriously considering counselling to get through it :D

"The Climatronic maintains a constant temperature fully automatically, once it has been set".

You still have to set it maually, though...

"The Climatronic system controls the blower stages automatically in line with the interior temperature. You can also, however, adapt the blower stages manually to suit your particular needs".

If you set it to 5 and then turn it off, when you next press the On button it will go to 5, because that's what you last set it to. If you want it to go to 1, turn it down to 1 and leave it for a few seconds to store this as the last setting used, before turning it off.

Otherwise you're just trying to confuse the unit by giving it several different instructions at once.

Well, DUHHHHH!!!!!!!

"The heating effect is dependent upon the coolant temperature, thus full heat output only occurs when the engine has reached its operating temperature".

Even my log fire at home doesn't heat the house up until the system has warmed up properly. This is just how the world works.

If it's that much of a problem for you and you really cannot wrap your brain around this, then just ignore the whole thing and wear a jumper instead.

my point 2 was not the obvious point about hot air only comes only when the engine is hot. It refers to the post where I'm told to leave the fan ON - my point being that that gives cold air first thing the next morning which I don't want!!!! Not sure why you can't understand that??? :P

I'm off to buy that jumper cos I'm keeping the car lol

Turn it off before you turn the engine off, then. Or turn it down to 1 bar or whatever the heck is it you want.

Then leave it off when you start the engine next morning.

It really is that simple.
