Gearbox oil

Featured Replies

Roomster 2007 1.4TDI, 5J, SHP gearbox code. Hi can anyone tell me what type of gear oil to put in the box and also the quantity please. I can find practically no information on the web about early Roomsters. Also is the Fabia engine and box the same as mine ?

In my manual 1.9PD Roomster I used Fuchs Titan Sintofluid FE SAE 75W. I'm pretty sure I needed 2 bottles but brought 3 to be sure. Loosen the fill bolt before removing the bottom drain one, so you know you will be able to refill. You wouldn't want to drain the box and then find the fill one was impossible to remove. I used one of those cheap fluid transfer pumps like this :

Hi Aubrey,

It's probably been some time since you did the oil change, but how did you find the oil? Did it make the gear selection better or worse, or no change?

Thanks

I did it the first time, I think it was about 5 years old, because I had a slight crunch going down into 2nd gear.  Changed the oil and immediately perfect. I did it a second time after another 5 years not because of any problems at all just because I thought well lets do it again as it been another 5 years.  Since the first oil change the gears were always silky smooth. I don't know if that was because the oil actually needed changing or because it may be a different spec of oil to Skoda original. All I know is my gear change was always silky and silent.

In fact I just sold the vehicle last weekend, I'm changing over to a Yeti. So bye bye Roomie, it was a great car.

Just bought some Fuchs Titan Sintofluid FE SAE 75W on your recommendation and i will let you know if it does the same for my gears, although the oil change probably wont be done till the weather gets better.

Hope you enjoy the Yeti but shame you went and got one as there are too few people with Roomsters on here :(

Great!! Thanks for the answers and updates. Look forward to your review Jeff.

I'll just hit the 'add-to-cart' button now....
