Monte Carlo cam chain.

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2011 1.2 T.S.I Monte is getting on a bit now although low mileage, the cam chain sounds fine but I am a bit concerned about the horror stories about this chain and got me wondering if it is worth having the new chain kit fitted as a precautionary measure or just waiting until I hear the dreaded rattle, does anyone know what the cost to have the work done will be, and if this is a permanent solution to the old cam chain problem.

Personally if i was running one i would be using 5w 40 fs oil not 5w 30 FS LL.  & making sure that when the oil is changed it is just drained and the new sump plug fitted and not left sitting draining for ages.

Others will be along that know what they paid to have the updated kit fitted.

Just before Christmas I had a kit fitted to my 1.2tsi by my local vag specialist and was £186.6 for the kit plus £270 for Labour, oil , etc.

This was at same time as a new clutch and having the LSD fitted
