Cluster backlight isn't going to be a fuse. It might be the dimmer switch.

I’ve tried the dimmer switch and it doesn’t seem to do anything the light on the automatic gearbox is also not working would this be bulbs or an electrical issue?

Have a look at fuse 36 (mini blade) and/or see if your rear number plate lighting is working, I think the instrument lighting may be fed by the same fuse.

Fuse 42 for the ciggy lighter is a standard blade fuse, I think.

Oooh, I forgot that there are some standard size ones in there too

I made a little image that combines the picture and the definitions of the fuses a while back, info nicked from this handy thread: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/294383-the-mki-fabia-fuse-layout-post-updated-with-bulb-types/

Might as well post it here as this thread has a suitable title for searchers. Mini-blade fuses shown smaller from 1-38, standard blades for all the others:

gaylita- RS ( RS COMPONANTS ) sell packs of this type of fuses circa £1.65 for a pack of 10. I've just had my ciggie one fail due to little ( not so little ) madam Cairn deciding that dad's seat is the best place to be. Problem is that she steps on the dashcam plug on way, and this can take out the ciggie fuse.

RS reside ( nearest to you) in Bermuda Park ,Nuneaton. Order on line and pick up next day, or when you're passing. Certainly cheaper than the 50p I've paid in local motor shops. Cheaper than having them post to you. It's not far off Mac D ,so you can have a MAC at same time.

on a brighter note. The electric windows now work!

Is it just the instrument cluster backlights that are out or are the heater controls and dash switches not illuminating either?

I think TMB was not just suggesting that you wiggle the dash light brightness wheel a couple of times to see if it made a difference. You found it didn't and it should! This suggests a more careful examination of the part is in order. Perhaps work out what pins it is connected to and hook up a meter measuring resistance to see if it changes as it should. An examination of the mechanics in the switch. Even a purchase from the local scrappie or ebay (£15) to do a swap test.

And yes I am a bit grumpy this evening as I have just been severely teed off on my home website.

Exactly.

I was suggesting that it may be faulty, of course.
