Debadge an Edition 100?

Featured Replies

I was thinking of removing the rear "superb" and "1.9 TDI" badge from my Edition 100, and leaving all other badges in place, I personally think it would smooth the rear a little, but is should I be doing this to an Edition 100? Are they better left alone?

Difficult one their mate, I have de-badged my rear end and it looks so much better but what extra badges does the Edition 100 have?

If it only has the Superb and 1.9 TDI on the back then I would remove them for sure, you know what the car is!!

Hey Baker, good to see some uk-mkivs.net guys here!

Basically the badges are identical to that of a normal superb, but it also has "edition 100" badging along the front wings by the indicator.

I was just thinking of removing the rea "Superb" and "1.9tdi" badge from the rear for 2 reasons:

1. the rear looks so much cleaner and executive without them (or at least in photoshop), people really would have no idea what the car MODEL was (im not ashamed to say its a skoda, but its funny when people have no clue as to WHAT skoda!)

2. the car looks like it has has a big engine due to its size, i feel that the "1.9tdi" badge may undermine its authority on the road!!!

Ideas?

There are a few uk-mkiv guys on here mate, can't believe that you have changed to a Superb!! Mind you I can't talk!!

I would loose them mate, if the Edition 100 badges are elsewhere then make the back end look much cleaner and remove them, I did and mine is the same engine as yours, this may help you decide mate:

(Not the cleanest it's been, LOL!!)

You must have loads of plans then after your last project? Any previews on your ideas?

Not too sure about the Superb being in the middle at the top, im guessing that they have smoothed over the dimple that the Skoda badge sits in, liking the later Passat style mirrors tho

Superb 1.9TDi can be removed no hassel and you can replace these very cheap when it comes to resale. It will look a lot better debadged (rear only not sides) and more executive as you mention. I debadged the fabia being a 1.2 12v as id put spoiler and alloys on it!

Oh and btw... i'm PD100 on uk-mkivs.net! but i've done the opposite to you.. i've joined them after brisky!

What's the best method of de-badging?

Thin twine behind the badge and then some TCut to clear off any excess adhesive?

Any advice gratefully received.

I was thinking of doing this myself on the rear superb letters and the tdi badge. After looking around on the site and elsewhere it seems there are a few methods: Use a hair dryer to soften the glue behind the badge and then pull it off, being carefull not to allow the other end of the badge to scratch the paintwork. You can also use fishing wire or dental floss to get in behind the badge and the glue. I've also read that pouring hot/boiling water onto the badge helps to soften it.

After you get the badge off it's a case of polish or even WD40! to get the glue off.

There are quite a few people who have de-badged there cars on the briskoda forums, I haven't come across any horror stories, so it should be failrly straight forward :)

It really is that simple and the worst you will do is get a bit carried away and put a little bit too much force on the badges snapping them which may scratch the paintwork but it looks so much better de-badged in the end........

Debadged mine this morning, poured some hot water on it first, then used dental floss to remove the letters. The TDI badge took a bit longer and I had to use the hair dryer on it. The glue took a bit of time to clean off. Finished by using some Autoglym SRP and EGP. Definately looks better now :D

If you have a heat gun or hairdrier to warm up the glue it takes a lot less elbow grease. The rear skoda badge is a lot harder though

A heat gun:eek: I don't think I'd let that anyway near my paint work :)

I'd rather take a bit longer and use a hairdryer.
