Clutch pedal clack

Featured Replies

Hi!

Sometimes I have a problem with my clutch pedal before i start my car's engine. Starting to depress the clutch pedal I feel the pedal becoming more and more stiffer, then I feel and hear a pretty big clack and the pedal continue his way to the floor easy. Next step I start the engine and the clutch pedal is working normal. I have this problem quite rarely when the engine is running. When the engine is off this problem returns frequently. I have no problem with gear shifting, the clutch does not slipping. What could be the problem?

Thanks for the answers.

No more clack anymore, just a whistle sound when I depressed the clutch pedal. This sound come from bad pressure plate bearing. I need to change and change the clutch too. How long could I drive with a failing pressure plate bearing?

As long as you can put up with the noise, there's no danger inherent with a noisy release bearing.

Thank you sepulchrave for the answer. The release bearing can be blocked? If get blocked, I think the diaphragm springs will be destroyed.

Theoretically it can seize but practically they just get looser and noisier, theoretically you could walk out of your house and a grand piano could fall on your head and kill you, practically it's extremely unlikely.

Be prepared for urban myths and horror stories from catastrophists who knew a guy who knew a guy whose entire family were killed by a seized clutch release bearing.

What can I tell you, it's the internets, sue me.

Ok, Thank you sepulchrave!
