Will My car run if i remove the Airbag Module?

Featured Replies

As title states.

I binned the car and want to know if I can run it without the airbag module plugged in.

But Wait! I hear you ask,"Thats Dangerous". Well, yes it is, BUT i won't be running this car on the road anymore and will likely just be using it for farm abuse.

The damage isn't too severe so there is that. However I know that the car wont run with the module having shown the airbags being deployed,so I figured if there is no module then it might want to fire up.

As a side note the car is still tracking impeccably straight and there isn't much frame damage, not enough to wreck the front anyways.

Good question. Try it and see?

Once the airbag module has the permanent flag for a deployment set the fuel is shut off and the engine will not run, you can replace the module for one with the same coding which does not have the flag set and the engine will run but the airbag warning light will be on.

Depending on the module you can reset a crash signal normally by erasing the code and the fuel pump block will clear.

Alright,I can happily announce that the 1.9sdi fabia will happily run without the airbag module attached, atleast mine will.

I Think that the only reason it would run was because it is an sdi so the fuel pump is driven by the engine,so when the car cranks it will pump fuel in and start.

The airbag light IS on but the car is running happily enough.Yay me I guess.

Only if the engine ecu or immobiliser sends 12v to the shut of solenoid. Pump is mechanical but the ecu controls it.

Somehow I don't doubt you, from what i have seen with this car I would happily put it down to this being an anomaly. I guess only time will tell if it keeps running.
