Mic issue - Bluetooth Phone - People can't hear me

Featured Replies

Hello,

Received new Kodiaq the other day, love it.

Only problem is there seems to be a microphone issue with Handsfree calling.

The bloke who dropped it off had the same issue as when he tried calling me to let me know of his arrival I couldn't hear what he was saying it was completely dead. Called him back twice and same issue.

I have since connected my phone and same issue, call or answer and no one is able to hear me.

I've had a good look at the setting and can't see anything obvious. I've checked for updates and the only thing available is map update which I've done anyway.

Wondering if I've missed something or just need to take it in, I can just imagine though this will be tricky convincing them as I'm sure they'll just want to make out it's a phone fault.

Thanks

Oli

Kodiaq SEL with Columbus 9.2 system

iPhone or Android?

In Android it is possible to select what your output/input is when bluetooth is connected.

The below text was taken from (https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7334382), 'Can't make or receive calls'.

  1. Check that other devices paired with your phone aren't getting your calls.
  2. Turn on Phone audio.
    1. Open your phone's Settings app Settings app.
    2. Tap Connected devices and then Bluetooth.
    3. Next to your car or accessory's name, tap Settings Settings.
    4. Next to 'Phone audio', tick the box.

Android - Ye checked that, all audio options are definitely ticked, no audio though.

I know what you mean though as this happened with my dad's android and his audi, for some reason it unchecked phone audio in the Bluetooth options for that pairing device.

Thanks

Oli

No worries.

Try several phones, just to make sure.

Also try your phone is another vehicle.

Also try the car’s voice control (press the voice button on the steering wheel) and see if it can hear you give an instruction. That might help identify if it’s a problem with the Bluetooth setup / your phone, or a more basic problem with the microphone not being connected properly.

Tried voice control, doesn't pick up anything. Must be car mic issue. My phone has worked fine in loads of other cars, the fact the guy delivering also had the issue confirms it.

I'll have to book it in.

Thanks for the help guys

Ok so a couple of weeks ago I was up visiting the parents for a long weekend, The local Skoda garage is only down the road from them, compared to 45min drive from me so I thought I'd drop it in hoping this would be a quick fix.

Unfortunately not.

They first replaced the mic, then checked the cables, and the connections, all was good, they couldn't see why it wasn't working. They eventually did some diagnostic checks and could see the MIB unit just wasn't sending the mic audio to the speakers, the only option would be to replace the whole MIB unit. This wasn't in stock and would require order that was showing as over 10 days.

As I would have to head down to home they said they would pass all the information onto my local dealer in order to try and prevent the need for them to do their own diagnostic checks.

Unfortunately they said it would have to be checked by them before ordering, which is understandable considering the cost of the unit.

So it's booked in the earliest on the 12th, which sucks as this will only be a waste of time them confirming what i already know just for the part to be ordered again and take over 10 days for delivery.

Hopefully replacing the MIB will actually fix the issue!

LOL, what I find more funny is that's probably all the engineers were doing for the first hour trying to fix it.

What's the "MIB"?

Not sure how much clearer this will make it but MIB stands for "Modularer Infotainment Baukasten" which means "Modular Infotainment Matrix" in english.

VAG moved to this in 2015 and from what I understand, a primary reason was to allow other devices and their apps (i.e. Smart Phones running Android Auto / Apple Car Play) to better exploit that expensive unit in the middle of your dash.

Hi, I have got similar issue. At least once a day, when starting motor, the system can't find my mobile - or rather car is loosing telephone. Pushing "PHONE" I have comunicate on infotainment "telephone is unavialable". It is like a car has no phone function at all. Service said that the "module" must be replaced. I gess a phone module, or BT module. Actuall y waiting for booked parts.

And all this time I thought it meant Men In Black
