Rear right door not unlocking

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just got my 2008 Rommster 1.4 BXW with LPG and this is my first post here, so Hello to all!

I'm very happy with the car, tons on space and very easy to drive, love it.

I do have some issues and gimmicks I would like to solve as I'm a hardcore DIY-er and own several cars.

My rear right door doesn't always unlock. I have to do a lock-unlock several times to get it unlocked. I guess this is a common VAG issue. What I don't know yet is if this is a repairable problem with the electric lock or do I need to get a new one, are there any topics related to this issue?

Thanks!

Hi Roberto. Before trying to dimsantle the door lock, try to reveal the cables from that bellow they are into. I mean the plastic tunnel in between the door and the pillar. Cables tend to brake, so take a look in there, as well as the driver's door bellow.

This is my story with driver's lock and how it was solved.

Thank you guys!

I will check the wires and if they are ok I will remove the lock and check it.

Do you know if VCDS can help diagnosing functions of the lock?

P.S: For some reason I didn't get notifications about replies to this topic.

The only message I got (my mechanic actually) from the diagnostic tool was an intermittend driver's door lock unit error. Thus everyone was suggesting lock replacement and due to high cost and as lock was working manually it took me almost two years to fix it.

I bet my penny on faulty wires.

On the other hand, if finally it is the lock mechanism, usually the culprit is a micro switch within the lock. Meanning that it has to be opend and at least in my case no one was willing to perform such an operation.

You can buy them on e-bay cheap £21.99 with 5 year guarantee.  E-Bay item number: 112084363122 . My back Left door wont lock and after looking for loose wires i bought an E-bay lock, then when i get around to it i will fit the new lock and strip the old one down to try to repair for a spare

And be aware its a MOT failure if any door can not be opened from the outside , so best done before .

@ JEFF-the-Bowman that was really a great piece of information and with almost no shipping costs for Greece. Thanks a lot.
